check if its getting fuel and spark that is the first thing i would check

also you did not provide enough information about what car it is...

i would be guessing distributor because thats what happened in my old 97 integra LS Special Edition took off the light and boom car died tuned out to be the coil

inspect the distribuor cap for black spots

that's so vague... can you further explain? what was it doing before it died? any symptoms you noticed? does your fuel pump prime when you turn the car on?

I agree - when I've lost coils (long story) it's gone just like you describe. You can replace the coil only if that's the bad part - way cheaper than a new dist.

It's helpful if you have a volt/ohm meter and know how to use it - to diagnose the ignitor and coil.

pull a plug wire out, stick a screw driver in the plug wire and hold the bare metal part of the screw driver 2mm from another bare metal object... See if you are getting spark.

A much better way is to plug a spark plug into the spark plug lead and ground the plug less chance of shorting out the coil.

So now your saying, "i dont think my fuel pump is priming".

If the fuel pump is working you will hear it if you turn your ign. switch on, [run, not start].

If you do not hear it, you will need to check the PGM-FI Main Relay and/or the powers to it. 94
