OT: Any of you guys have daily drivers? or have a spare beater?
i'm in the going over everything before my install process, and ummm... i'm starting to get the pre-turbo jitters again.... and remembering how much it stinks to not have a driveable car.
how many of you have a spare car? and what is it?

civic hatch auto (also the rush hour traffic jam car...not having to shift in bumper to bumper owns.)
its really really nice to say: "aahh well you know what? forget it, i'll finish this tomorrow" or "ahh well i might as well wait for the right parts to arrive instead of half-assing it and having to redo it again" or "ahhh well i've had enough for now, i'd rather go drink and hang out with chicks for awhile, i'll finish this later" or "f*ck it i am going camping for the weekend, i'll deal with this when i get back"

I have a 95 GSR Sedan with leather.
I just bought the car for 2500 with a hydro locked motor and ruined carpeting. In this picture, fluid dynamics again wins in teaching us that water does not compress very well.
I replaced the block, and rebuilt it with ITR pistons to push compression to 11:1, to prevent (or perhaps inhibit) myself from boosting it. I also threw on a DC JDM header, test pipe, AEM CAI, Hondata intake gasket, HK$ cam gears, 12lb OEM flywheel. For now, I have the stock exhaust. I kinda like it super quiet. Every part on the car, sans the block rebuild parts, was either used or a left over from a previous project of mine. All in total, I have 4500 bucks in this car and blue book is 8k
The best part is, this was my brother's car, and we had recently installed a ITR clutch, rebuilt the tranny, and I know the service history of the car for the last year. Insurance wouldnt total it, so I helped him and myself out by buying it off of him. I expect this combo will be good for 165whp and high 14 sec timeslips. This car replaced my CRX, which I sold for 2300 and had ordered a b16 swap for (1200) and had 1000 bucks of parts laying around for it. So basically, I got this car for no money out of pocket.

I have a salvaged 95 Integra Special Edition. Although it's automatic with 130k miles, it's really really relaxing to drive. The only bad thing is summer. Everyone in Cali knows that leather is the ultimate enemy when you're parked in the sun. Ouch!
BTW, don't tell anyone, but I have 16" Katana's on it. (Volk Racing AV-3 Style baby!)
I'm asshamed of myself but my dad bought them..

I think its a necessity to have a beater stay in this game long. less stress is good. I have a 90 civic hb, I'm thinking about slapping a turbo on it ... oh so tempting
I'm going to get a '77 Civic CVCC as my beater. I'm trading it for my Crower cams and valvetrain.
I learned my lesson the hardway last winter not having a backup car. I spent many a day walking the cold frozen sidewalks from my apartment to campus. This time the turbo car is going to spend alot more time in the garage and the '77 is going to take the daily grind.

Always have a beater or a wife. i have a 89 ford escorts and a 98 honda crv. my new project is my 92 nissan 240sx coupe. I just got dne striping the civic and turning it into stock (with rims intake and exhaust) and got all my money back in the parts, gotta love ebay. And now im dumping the money into the nissan. I figure my 2000 civic needs to be the stock car not the race can, and then the nissan that i payed 500bones for can be the race car.
I have a 97 Saturn as my beater. My grandmom sold it to me for really cheap so I couldn't pass it up. And it only has 40k miles on it
I got my SOHC VTEC powered Dodge Neon baby!

its a 98 5 speed Neon, all manual base model... 50k miles on it, paid $2k for it... Roof & hood are dinged up... no biggie... I can't wait for winter... SNOWBANKS HERE I COME!
And here's a tiny pic i took with my webcam...

Oh yeah... and mods are HyperWhite Reverse lights, black spraypainted muffler (It had blue overspray from when the previous owner had the *** end repainted), and removed airbox...
But look how clean i keep the engine bay!

I've got a 1986 Mustang GT that runs 14's all day long mostly stock with exhaust.
I've also just recently bought a 91 Sentra SE-R, Black with just over 100k miles on it, blown engine. $800. Gunna throw in some N/A 300 ZX pistons, and a few little things for a nice li'l mid 14 seconds sleeper that gets 30 MPG
No pics of the Sentra yet, but here's the beater Mustang.

I have my 96 AWD Talon with a big 16g 3in ss from the turbo back, ported evo manifold, IC pipes, 255lph fuel pump, 660 nd injectors, afc, boost gauge, af meter etc etc etc.. I dont know how much more reliable this car is than my civic will be but atleast it will get me up the mountain in the winter (with a set of Blizzaks) so I can go boarding. AWD is fun the damn thing goes sideways in all conditions.. awd powerslides are fun as hell.
94 teg is the toy and the 93 baretta is the backup. I must say I love quiet, smooth v6 power with an automatic (especially in traffic).
Just got one, my dad's '88 Civic hatch. 4spd and 70hp oWNz jOO!!
Funny thing is, aside from a horribly slipping clutch, it actually runs better than my turbo Civic
A/C, radio and VERY good MPG!

Just picked up an 88 HF CRX, runs like a champ but I cant help but drop in a B16 they are just to cheap not to.
Make it a little fun

Well I have a daily driver, sort of. My CX will have the turbo gsr motor, and when it/if it breaks, then I'll just drop the CX motor back in....
Not the true meaning of having a beater...but in a few hours of work you can restore it back to its 70hp form.
