Default Any opinions on the BW EFR series

I notice these aren't very popular on the honda board or in general, they are extremely pricey and are not carried by a lot of vendors. However, the technology sounds good ( Gamma-ti wheel).

They are more expensive because they come with a wastegate, blow off valve and boost solenoid. Those items are more expensive seperately. Having the components matched together is great for a new turbo setup but not good for anyone who already has them. Im upgrading my Garrett GT-R turbo and would love to try a EFR7670 but the frame is too big for my setup and I already have a wg and bov.

The Gamma-ti wheel is only on the turbine side. Its mainly used by the Full Race crowd and Evolution crowd. The technology is promising, but considering that the main market has products that are flanged for Garrett turbo fitment, it will take some time for serious interest to generate for what it can do. Most enthusiasts on this forum are drag race oriented. They were like that with the S-series BW turbos about 6 years ago.

They are having a terrible time manufacturing them, and there is not set release date. Knowing this I would say EFR turbo's REALLY only exist on paper since no one can get there hands on them. I think it would make more sense to discuss them once people can actually buy them.

there's no lack of production. And Full-Race aren't the only people that sell them. They are limited supply based upon demand, but that's just how BW works. Its not like Garrett, where you have a variety of suppliers due to their rarity alone.

Yeah, i understand that they make the gamma- ti wheel only on the exhaust side because they can use a aluminum wheel on the compressor side which doesn't have to withstand the heat. The idea of the lighter turbine wheel for more effective spool times seems like a good idea. I also know they are internally gated, but whats this about the bov and solenoid ?

They are all connected to the turbocharger. BOV and boost solenoid are attached to the turbo itself.

Actuator on far left
Boost control solenoid is the smaller black box
BOV is the beige apparatus on the right
