Default funny idle problems

Ive been having this fluctuating idle thing going on with my d16z6. Just runs up to 2000 rpm and drops to 1000. Does it repeatably... It does this with the clutch in or out, only at idle. Anyone have any ideas, i cant seem to figure this one out?

Thanks

there is an FAQ post in the sticky at the top of the forum that deals with all kinds of idle issues. start with that, then get more specific.

Alot of hondas have idle problems. First place I usually start is air in the cooling system. goodluck

so the idle rise and drop is either a vacuum leak(important hose loose or you have a bad gasket) or or your IACV (idle air control valve) is going bad or may just need to be cleaned. The Ecu is trying to compensate for lost air so it idles F***ing weird. I havent heard of a car stalling and not starting from this though.
cheak for a vacuum leak or Iacv first.
Edit* If there is air in the cooling system it can cause your temp gauge to go to max. Keep an eye out for that too.

The reason why I said check the coolant first is because coolant runs through the IACV. Even if the IACV is fine if there's air in the coolant it will idle like crap.

ok ill check into it. Thanks for the info. Any other idea's about the stalling? Happends usually when i turn the car off or stall it and try to start it up again within 5 mins.

It starts up and then runs to 2000 rpm drops and stalls out?

was the IACV that needed attention. As for the stalling i am replacing the main relay. That should do the trick.

Well turns out it wasnt the IAVC..... Got it checked out by a mechanic friend and he says its not dirty and doesnt need cleaning. We did unplug it and the car idled fine.... just didnt start after truning off... so pluged it back in. Still have the surging idle...

Could it need replacing i guess? Any other ideas please anyone!

U need to screw in your fast idle valve on the back bottom of your throttle body it has a plate with two 8mm screws that hold the plate on. Take it off and screw the yello thing all the way in with a very small flathead. Not the iacv its the fast idle valve hope that helps
