How much smoke we talkin? I mean mine will let out a puff after not being started for like a month but it only last for a second then goes away. If it's bad it could be the rings not sealing.

look for cel codes, n if it was obd1 swapped, if they used jumper harness's, or hardwired, vtec wont crack with a check engine lite, tell him you want to test drive it n see if vtec works, if not then theres wiring issues

did u check the oil, usually black smoke is rings, try a compression check on it, only takes a few minutes and if compression is good then change the oil, it did sit for a year, oil breaks down 3 months after starting the car cuz gas gets mixed in the oil. im not a honda guru, but its a suggestion, worse comes to worse get the car cheaper and change the bottom end out

Okay, I think I can get it for around $600 and plan on putting alittle in it. Think I should go for it? And how long can I run with bad seals, I can get another head in a few months.

If you can buy a running car for 600 I would jump on it. Why replace head, why not replace just the seals? Cheaper!!
