Default 97 build,

Hey guys, im new to HT, but not a newbie. So, i spun a bearing in my 97 DX friday morning on my way to work, it didnt scar my crank, so i went ahead and ordered acl race rods, and mains, along with ARP rod bolts, and p29 pistons, i have a set of DSM 390's laying around from my old DSM (i upped them to 880's) so my question is once i get this all back together will i need a tune, or can i limp it around for a week or so while im breaking it in so i dont have to scrape pennies, its not my daily, but i would love to drive it as i only had it 4 days before i spun a bearing... and what cam would you all recommend? Im doin an ALL motor, high comp build, d16y7, non vtec, planning on running to 8-9K rpm and where does my stock cam stop making power at? thanks guys, and any advice is always appreciated.

Of course you will need a tune. This isn't an old musclecar where you slap on a bigger cam or something and pick up horsepower. The ECU need to be "told" what you have done to the car since it no longer stock. This goes for any mode you make past the useless I/H/E bolt-ons.

I don't know how you plan such a build and not know that.

BTW you break it in on the dyno. Fast and furious so that the rings will seat. None of this slow and plodding "take it easy for 500 miles" nonsense.

lol i like your style, and yeah i knew it would need a tune, just didnt know how badly, i've always been one to push the limits, EX, i went to the track in a 91 talon TSI, only mod was a FPR, BIG 16G, and a boost controller and a boost gauge, i ran a 14 and was hurt, so i decided to push it, i upped my boost to 26psi, and upped my fuel press and would up turning a 13.3@100 MPH, never had a problem (i built it later on, BC cams, Head gasket, tuning software, arp studs, 20G charger on 28lbs of boost with BC 880cc injetors, she ran low 11's while all 4's screamed for traction) moral is i was hoping i could do it without a tune for a week or so or would it run so sh***y that i couldnt drive it?

ALSO, will my stock rod bolts be ok at 8K rpm? im gonna be running a OBD1 LS ecu, chipped.

AND will a stock MLS head gasket hold up to the pressure of the raised compression from the P29's? Thanks.

im gonna tell you many people have spun rod bearings and didn't think they scared the crank and when they replaced the bearings in it it would begin to knock again after a 1k-2k miles. buy a new crank or have a shop look at it and make sure its ok before just slapping some bearings on that crank u could be yanking it rite back out again. as for race bearings on a daily driver is a NO NO. they are made for tight clearances and to be replaced often. u obviously need to do some research.

i never said stock cam, if you read correctly i asked where my cam stops making power, and i asaaked if my rod bolts would hold up at 8k? or should i invest in ARP rod bolts... and, bisi makes a non vtec cam, and i changed it up after reading on clearance's of the arp's, i went with king bearings, and i understand i might have scarred it but honestly im planning on a swap, just wnted to experiment with a D series.

AAnd your 100% correct, i am running stock valve train, heck stock head for right now, i spun a bearing and im not made of money so i waanated to build the bottom end while i had it apart. No one said i was gonna crank it up to 8-9K with stock valve train, that would be pointless, my cam would be spinning for nothing and valves would be floating. Im not an idiot, just asked simple questions because im not familiar with the D series, if people would have read it all they might understand lol.
