Icon2 what are my ITR ECU options for tuning?

My car has a Mugen ecu thats been flashed from RTR from what I am told cannot be tuned.... so to me its as good as a paper weight.
Can someone please explain to me the different ecu options I have such as the difference between what is and what they do-p28, and or p72, and any other options out there.. thanks

All the threads I search just come up with for sale ads, and no actual info on what they are what they difference is and which one I need for a 98 ITR

You will need to get a obd2 -> obd1 conversion harness which will then let you run a obd1 ecu which you can tune

Doesnt matter. As long as it is 5spd manual and has VTEC. A P72 should be an easy one to find

I know that virgin p28's are becoming sarace, virgin p72's are even worse. IIRC, p06's are auto ecu's converted for manual trannies. Tuning software should what you tuner is familiar with. I'd be interested in the Mugen ecu for testing if you sell it off.

If you don't want to convert, Apex'i makes it's own plug and play stand alone ecu that is **** for these cars. It's called the Apex'i powerfc, you just need to find a tuner who will tune it. P1 Jack in SC is who I had tune mine. Or you could go the hondata S300 route with the OBD1 ecu. If you want more info on what ECU's to use with that, their website will give a run down as to which ECU's to use

interesting I have a friend who has a virgin p72 with the conversion harness and wants to sell it to me... its been sitting in storage for like 7 years... would this be a good route to go, then get a hondata s300 with it? and yes the mugen will be for sale as soon as I get another ECU in the car thats running.

Obd I p72? Then I'd get it, turn a profit and get a p06 converted ecu. Then again it has been a while since I was in the market for an ecu.

I have a S300 as well:......... but the aR runs so well with the OE ecu, I don't want to mess up a good thing.

For clarification, P06 is non vtec and you can convert them to vtec. The P72 has a knock sensor, but I think that is disabled if using Hondata anyway... not positive. For my DD, I have a Hondata P28 that doesn't require a conversion harness. Sometimes you can find those cheap as well.

This is a stupid question, but did you buy Tracys old caR?

99 is obd II, it is not what you want. 94-95 GSR is what you want.

You could just get an ECU and have someone tune your car who is familiar with eCtune

On the same topic, does anything need to be done to the ECU because of the immoboliser on the ITR, say if you buy an OBD1 to tune with?

no, the immobilizer is a non issue since you're replacing the ecu [as far as i know]. the p72-a01 is the ONLY GSR ECU that you can chip and use. the p28s are easier to find but even those sell for $100 now a days. a p72-a01 can fetch $200. as stated the converted p06 is the most common.

if you have a real mugen p73 some idiot will probably spend like $500 on it which will pay for most your ecu, boomslang and tuning costs

Im from Australia so there are plenty of p72 around and they fetch for about $100

I heard that the immobolizer needs to be disabled from under the dash of the car or something and that each ITR ECU is programmed specifically to the keys and immoboliser system so the car won't start unless i take the new ECU to a dealer and get it re tuned. I take it this is not true?

aem also makes a plug and play standalone. no conversion harnesses needed. but it's also one of the more expensive options.
