Default 88 coilovers

I've been doin some research on coilovers and I have found quite a few good ones, but who actually makes good coilovers for an 88 CRX? I was really likeing the progress coilovers but I didn't see anything about an application for the 88. The only ones that I have found who really make coilovers for the 88 are Tein and they are a good price for the Tein HA's. But i've heard some bad things about them, but i have yet to hear a bad thing about the progress set-up. Can someone please help with some info or some links.

Thanks

88-91 are all the same... I'm pretty sure about that

Depends on what you want to do with the car. If it is for show then the possibilities are among many. If you plan to autocross and/or road race like me that cuts your choices to Skunk2, Ground Control and Neuspeed. Assuming that you might like to do lapping/track days or run SCCA ITA then the choices remain as noted. Remember that there may be a rule about ride height; SCCA requires a minimum of 5" to the lowest point on the rocker panel cover under the door-not the jack point. As to shocks, it is your wallet but I use Koni "yellow" Sport shocks and have them on all of my cars. There are other brands and KYB seems to be a good alternate as is Tokico.
One other thing to consider is spring rates. For the street a "progressive (NEUSPEED or Eibach Prokit) " would be a nice compromise. Gently stiffens the ride while lowering, but is not adjustable for ride height or corner weighting. If you go with Skunk2 or GC then the springs are wide open as to selection, but will be much firmer than stock. E-mail me with other Q's.
Good Luck.

I'm planning on auto-x and maybe some track. I would prefer a true coilover set-up over a say a koni/gc set-up.

wrong. the rear control arms on the 88 are totally different than the 89-91s.

i am not sure why you prefer the "true" coilover setup as GC offers many different types of springs...spring rates, linear or progressive, length, diameter, etc. if you plan on racing, this is usually the better approach to take as it gives you more flexibility and changeability.

The only model I have heard any problems about are the HA's, but I hear the RA's are a good buy.

For Autocross you may be better advised to go with the GC or Skunk2 setup-why because it offers you the ability to upgrade the springs as you improve your skills. I have no idea if Tein offers a wide range of spring rates. Another thing-if you decide to go racing the "true" coilovers are not allowed by SCCA for classes like Improved Touring. Sure would be nice to have a threaded body shock-but I'm content with my setups and I know that I have a lot of options.
For the short term may I suggest that you make sure to get springs that are very firm. Do not rely on using the shocks alone for this. Most do not offer an adjustment for compression, just rebound. I will tell you that my car (CRX) is set up with 400f/500r springs and the ride height is 5.5". This works for ITA for me and helps the car rotate the way I like. You should begin with the rates reversed. Also take a long look at the Rear Sway Bar. My CRX uses a 19mm ADDCO bar (you can get it from Summit). If by chance your car did not come with bars at all then ST may have something for your car (they did for my Civic). Then again you can convert to the Si LCAs and get the mounting brackets. You will NOT need a front bar except the stock one.
Last-since you will have the suspension apart, get a set of ES poly bushings for the rear LCAs, the rear trailing arms (big bushings) and the front sway bar end links and bushings. This will all help tighten the car up without getting it too tight.
Good luck
