Default bad catalytic converter?

sup guys,

so I noticed a small rattling noise on monday driving to work and thought it was just a loose hangar or heat shield but it seems its coming from the cat. I was wiggling my muffler back and forth and front to back and couldnt duplicate it. I had a friend look at it and he wiggled it from the cat area and iit made the noise. any help is appreciated

its a 00 gsr with 124K 100% stock exhaust
is this a common problem?
I want to try and take off the cat to inspect the insides

Most likely the heat shield above the cat. Very common.

ive seen cat internals crumble on inside and cause a rattle before, sounds like your problem, with a test pipe youll prob throw cat efficiency codes, id get a REAL high flow cat

^^ I second this. Get a high flow cat. Same performance as a test pipe and you create less noxious emissions and stay legal. Only downside is the cost.
