VSS/TPS/Wiring Issues - H22 in 99 Civic EX
I am pretty sure that this is the correct section for my question(s).
So here is my current set-up:
Stock H22a motor (OBD1) - EGR deleted, butterflys deleted
OBD2b engine wiring harness (just re-wired by the shop for the H22)
OBD2b-OBD1 step down harness (I have bee using this problem free for about 1 year)
P28 ECU w/ Hondata S300 (I have been using this problem free for about 4 years)
First, I received the car back from a shop on Tuesday. This shop wired the H22 motor into the car, installed the shifter cables etc and did exhaust work. Only had a CEL for the VSS. I noticed that the ECT sensor (under the distributor) was not cut and extended. I fixed that myself. Temp gauge is working fine now. Still have a CEL for VSS after driving about 5 mins (normal from what I have seen). My speedo and odometer do not work. Everything else works perfectly fine. No fuses blown. I did replace the VSS/Alt fuse since it looked corroded.
Recently, I attempted to re-install the kick panel on the passenger side to protect the ECU/wiring since I was picking up a friend. As soon as I touched the wiring, everything tweaked and the car shut off. I now have an error code for the TPS, IAT, ECT, and VSS. Everything but the VSS was working perfectly fine before hand.
****My main focus is the TPS right now. It shows (in Hondata) 112% while the car is off. After cranking for a good 8 seconds (~5 seconds when the car is already warm), the motor starts up and the TPS reading in Hondata jumps to 25% and stays there. All of my attempts to check voltage are showing ~4.9v no matter what wire I try, or where I position the TPS, or how open the TB is.
Am I testing the TPS incorrectly? I follow guides on testing and calibrating and I can't get anything to work.
Lastly, I notice if I shake or play with the wires going into the conversion harness the car will shutter sometimes and even more, shut off like before.
My question is, do you think there are problems with the various sensors, or something wrong with the plugs going into the conversion harness?
If anyone has any suggestions about my VSS issue as well, I would be happy to look into that, too. I just want to get the motor running properly first, then I would start attacking that CEL issue. I have heard something about an OBD1 VSS not being functional with an OBD2 harness? Any input on that would be appreciated.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to make sure I got all of the information in here.
Thanks guys.

its gotta be the conversion harness my boy had the same problem once one of the wires where getting loose and the car would putter but he resoldered the wire and it was good after that. Just check those wires on the step down harness especially the all black wire ones some people get they just get loose from movement
I was definitely skeptical about the $50 eBay conversion harness which I have. However, nothing looks wrong with it and I never had a problem with it before since I had it for about a year. I replaced the conversion harness I previously had a year ago since that one was hacked up.
I have a replacement IAT sensor from my D16y8. I will attempt to install that one and see if that CEL goes away. If not, there is definitely a wiring issue somewhere.
Thanks for the reply hondasdohc and the confirmation that the VSS should work with my set-up. I guess if I fix this wiring issue and I am still getting a VSS CEL, I will look to replace the VSS at that time.
If anyone else has any input about this, I would appreciate it.
