Default knocking sound from d15b7

got a 94 sedan dx with a d15b7 in it. started it up and was going to go to mc donalds for some late night grubbage. after it started i noticed a knock. i figured since its cold out that it would stop once it got warmed up. i let it warm up and it still knocked so i shut it off, checked the oil and it was where it should have been. i have a oil leak from the vc gasket but i got a new one to put on but i always checked it and never let it get low.

Pinpoint the sound. Is it coming from the engine or is something loose?

For an engine knock, an engine stethoscope ($3-4 at Harbor Freight Tools) may help.

You can use a socket extension as a stethoscope, put one end on the motor and put your thumb over the other end and hold your thumb up to your ear. Have the valves ever been adjusted?

no its just a beater with 320k miles on it. noise sounds like it comes from timing cover but took it off checked it everything looks right. i felt the valve cover and couldnt feel it making a knock on it but touched the timing cover and could feel it :/

Get the stethascope and put it on the alternator. Or remove the belt and test.

Could you post a video? Is it a constant knock like as the rpm rises the knock gets faster? or is it an intermittent sound?

figured it out. . . i think. ive been looking at it and noticed that the ac belt was worn and i have read somewhere ( i forget now ) and the compressor for the ac sometimes has a knock.
kind of sounds like this but more like a 2 stroke dirtbike at idle

That isn't a belt causing that problem. It's the AC clutch going out, and if it's doing that you should replace it before it tears your AC compressor to pieces. The clutch is like $20 and the compressor is a couple hundred.

fgured it out. was looking at it today added new vc gasket plugs new vc studs and went and started it and the knocking was coming from the crank pulley it was cause the belt to shred. and turned it off felt it and i could move it with my hand. tightened it down with a tourque wrench and it runs flawless
