I have a 92 prelude with 4ws and it's not active. How would I check to see what codes are in it so I can fix it and utilize it?

Here is a write up on re-soldering the relay contacts inside the 4ws ecu. I had the same problem with my 92 4ws. I followed this write up and it fixed it

If you do a search on here or google you can find factory honda service manuals which will tell you how to pull the codes and how to convert those codes and figure out what's wrong. The soldering issue isn't always the problem. you could have a sensor out or something.

You'll find this out if you read through the 4ws section in the manual, but it's not designed to be any sort of performance enhancing feature, unless you're talking about parking lot performance. I used to have a '92 4WS with an H22 and a few things done to it, so I've been through this all before.
The first things I learned are that if you stop the car, and turn it back on within a short amount of time, the 4ws system disables itself and the light will come on. I'm not exactly sure why, but the light kept coming on so i troubleshooted it and that's what I found out. The second thing I found out, is that while doing "spirited driving" the 4ws will also disable itself and the light will come on. It was never explained why, But my guess is that while the sensors take steering angle, steering speed, driving speed, etc readings very quickly, the mechanics of the 4ws unit just don't make the proper adjustments fast enough to keep the car predictable and stable. Let's face it, this is a good thing. If the rear wheels are going all crazy behind you while you're driving like a bat out of hell, it's not safe.
The last thing I'll mention is something a LOT of people I've talked to about the 4ws system don't realize: Above approx 20-30 MPH, the wheels will no longer turn opposite the front, but turn the SAME. This was a feature to make lane changes on the highway more safe. You DO NOT want your rear wheels turning left while you're turning right going 70MPH+ on the highway; that would be a disaster.
