that's a crazy broad title lol. i actually love the K&N SRI, minimal chance of hydrolocking and great sound, they claim nice power gains but so does ebay...

Why the short ram? If you're going true "cold air" intake get the Injen that drops down into the front end so you're pulling actual cooler air (rather than engine compartment warm air.)

It's daunting to put in but it is def worth it.

Injen is great for CAI and SRI. K&N SRI makes good power too, i second that.

I hydrolocked with a cold air, but was def my fault being stupid and not thinking. Cold air is def the way to go. Packaging these days makes it a lil more difficult to get everything in there. Take your time do it right, and you will love the decision.

PS- Don't stop at the intake

coldair gets you more power yes i agree.. but only under perfect weather they are any good.. driving thru puddles with a cai = not fun =p

i myself like the looks of the weapon r neo titanium, but when it comes to performance i am not sure how good they really are.. i have been told good things about the injen, takeda, and k&n.. im also told that the apexi sometimes mess with your mass airflow, or iat sensor (forget which one)

i cant really suggest any becsause i myself was about to make this thread before i saw it.. but i think im going to be going with an injen, takeda or k&n until i find out more about some others..

definitely going for an SRI over a CAI tho.. let us know what you decide and what you think about it

i retract part of my previous statement.. after seeing this im not so sure the weapon r is worth the money spent

http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-10...i/viewall.html

11 hp gain with the hondata flashpro makes it seem hardly worth the money spent

if this is true i myself think i might order myself in a takeda intake

I have the K&N CAI on my 2008 Si. It made a hell of a difference in the sound and fuel economy, but the only noticable power gains are at about 6700 RPMs. I am very happy with it and for only $300, you can't go wrong.

I tend to avoid driving thru puddles that deep. The location of the actual intake (filter) is secured in the fenderwell and, after installing, I went back thru and sealed up the cuts I made to the fenderwell with roofing sealer. Black, thick, ****ie stuff that pretty much made it as watertight as it was before I hacked into it.

As long as I don't ford any streams (or puddles) that are deeper than 6" I should be fine. Wouldn't you know, the VERY first day after installing it we were hit with a pounding thunderstorm that took down trees, flooded roads, etc. The Injen CAI did just fine. Of course, I didn't drive like an idiot with a 4x4, either.

That's how I feel about my Injen CAI. I paid $268 out the door. Best ROI of anything I think I could've done as a starter mod.

Cold air intakes are usually placed in the fender well area, which brings in a cooler charged air from beneath the car (outside of the engine bay), which is denser and therefore creates more power. The piping is a lot longer than a short ram which means the power gains are not seen until the mid to higher RPM band. A short ram intake is located inside the engine bay and creates power with better response times than a cold air, however the air is not as dense, which means that it doesn't make as much power in the upper RPM region and makes less power overall.

it all depends in your preference.. and also your laziness cause CAIS are a bitch to installl

i had a takeda. 17hp gain...pft. not. though there is a gain its minimal. i have the pwjdm power chamber on my car now. i like it. and, unlike other short rams, it doesnt put the air filter right above the header. the intake filter is just behind the driver's side head light. but if you get this intake you will need to relocate the battery.

I put a Spoon Sports drop-in in my 09 fa5. It fits all model 06-11 civics I think. I know for a fact it fits the Si. It's a great option if you wanna keep the stock box. I got it from kamispeed.com It took awhile to get from Japan but it is what is in the FD2 Type R so I figured it was good.

I've got a k&n typhoon II in my 08 si. Best $250 spent. I noticed about 2-3 mpgs better on average, better mid-top range power, great vtec engagement and it looks clean. It uses the bottom half of the oem intake to draw colder air up. And the half box that comes with it helps segregate it from the engine bay, keeping warmer air out. I've prolly made my money back from the gas I've saved if not I've come close.

I've been looking into these lately. I have an '06 EX and am really just looking for mpg improvements at this point. I was looking primarily at the Takeda or Ingen. Is there anything better for mpg out there?

I would go for the Injen intake as well but if you really just want a short ram intake then AEM is where its at

A bit of a n00b question, but does an intake require a tune on these cars?

Coming from the world of Subarus, throwing on an intake without tuning is bad news. Because they are MAF cars, the AFR's can be thrown off quite a bit with an intake.

I don't even have an Si (yet), but have been planning on an intake if/when I do get one. Does one notice any gains by just installing it without a reflash of some kind? How about driveability issues?

Thanks!

After so many miles are you supposed to change your air filter?
