Me and some co workers were having a huge debate on it...One is saying it will work and flow well and the other is saying throw it in the trash....I got this for super cheap... Let me know what you guys think..This topmount was made to be used with p/s and a/c

I would at least do some porting and maybe fab up something to bring all the runners to a point inside the collector. Oh and wrap that damn thing to when your all done!

 

You plan on running a wastegate?

 

it will work fine...remenber till a few years ago people where using log manifolds..and running fine....you could clean it up but u might mess up the welds and crack it..and it looks like it has a t4 flange but no wastegate outlet...at this point you should had just bought an obx top mount...they suck but they are copies of a good one...

See the unburned MIG wire in the upper left hand collector? That WILL eventually break off and destroy your turbo.

Just makes me cringe at what the rest of the welds will eventually do. And the merge collector isn't really a collector it all, it's just a bunch of tubes welded together. They're not actually merged at all.

 

Smh if you took the time to read everything you will see that the manifold is not complete... thank you all

Just understand something, all we can provide is an opinion on the product you have shown so far, once you post up pics of the finished product, then you will get opinions based on that.. as of right now, those remaining mig pieces will eventually fly off into your turbo and destroy it.... now it wouldve been better to mention those pieces will be cut off since your looking at the same photo we are...

Remember, the title of the thread is "DIY Topmount what do you guys think about it?" not what do u guys think about the finished product....finish it up and post more pics...

 

It looks a bit spooky. I dont know your financial situation or budget for this setup, but I wouldnt run this on anything I own. I would spend a little more money and get something that isn't full of slag and pieces of welding wire.

At the very least, clean up that wire inside and preferably add a couple reinforcements between the turbo flange and the header flange. It looks like exhaust pipe, not weld els like most are made of. A turbo is heavy and with an engine vibrating, it will put a lot of stress on the manifold.

It would be better to cut off the "collector" and rework it, as it's been said. The reason collectors come to a point is that it reduces turbulence or something.

 

If you take the time to read it, you would notice this is actually the first time you make any mention of it being incomplete. In your first post you mention;

You still made no mention of cleaning up any of those poor welds. My opinion.. would it work? Yeah. Would you destroy your turbo if you ran it like that? Yep, just as soon as the wire came loose. Would it flow well? Probably not.

If you say this isn't the finished product, post up some pictures when you get it done. As of now those are my opinions of it.

 

cut of the "collector" and have it like the first pic, then weld a cone inside it. then buy a stamped collector, weld on a WG-flange, weld on the t4 flange and weld the thing to the mani. brace the **** out of it and then clean up everything.

lot of work and extra investment. just don't buy the shitpiece and buy something worthwhile!

 

thats looks badass, only thing id be worried about is all the weight going on that thin metal. may crack it/or break it
it will flow fine. thats nothing new ive seen alot of hommade ebay manifolds turned into topmounts

 

that looks like tubing, not pipe. unless its 316 or 321. it's gonna be fail. it will crack. Sorry.

 

I will work. I would for sure clean uo and smooth out the wields inside. I will most likrly crack on you. Looks like someone took a cheap header and turned it into a top mount. I say Trash It. a cast Ebay mani would be better.
