Transmission Change for a 2009 Honda Civic, 20,000 miles
For the longest time I've been driving a 1994 Honda Accord and was very happy to get this car, but I wish it was a stick shift! About how much would it cost to change my automatic transmission to a manual transmission? What parts would I need? Is it worth it?
the problem with the auto to manual swap for these cars is that pretty much every part you need will cost you a fortune. this is what you need:
MT
MT mount
flywheel, clutch, pressure plate
clutch master, lines, slave
shift cables
harness modification
PCM
shifter box
possibly axles (not 100% sure but i think the manual version uses half-shafts while the at version uses one long one short)
i THINK that's all
BUT, then you need to do more work:
get new pcm coded to your key (immobiliser)
punch out the plug in the firewall (pretty sure its tacked on) for the master
and there are unknowns i.e. sometimes honda likes to use slightly different subframes for MT or AT models and sometimes different sensors for some emissions systems etc (some a/t models use mainshaft speed sensors instead of a VSS etc.)
then you would have to pay a shop to do it (if they are willing) or be without your car for possibly several weeks as you work out the kinks.
imo not really worth it, specially since these cars are still worth quite a bit in resale and you could just sell the car and buy a MT model.
don't forget that used parts for these cars are still not available in most cases

He did, that's the problem.
OP for what it's going to cost, especially on a car that new I'd just sell the car and buy a manual. The swap itself shouldn't be all that difficult, I just think it's going to cost more than it's worth.

It's not like a civic with manual is that rare, so just sell your car and buy one that already is manual. Will be way cheaper and easier that way.
