Trouble with shifting gears (solved)
So I swapped for a B16 out of an em1 into my ej8 4 door... love it!
So last night and for the past few days every so often it will be harder than usual to get into gear... I've heard of the synchro problem that b16a2 have had in the past with the transmission.. just wondering if it could be anything else before i go that route..
Last night it wouldn't even go into first had to do everything short of kicking the shifter in the gear, but this morning shifts like butter
This is my third car with a manual so it's not a user error...
Any ideas...???

to be honest, i've always had a very small drip under the transmission where it bolts up, didn't think anything of it cause it was so small... could just be that low by now... has been going on for a while now...
alright so i know it's been a while, but thought i would update... i bleed the system, and it was able to work and shift gears just fine, but i was pushing the peddle all the way to the floor, i figured i would replace the slave and master cylinder, and i did such, with a oem slave cylinder and a omni cmc. so the omni cmc sucked *** hole and didn't want to work properly, not sure what i was doing wrong but followed their instructions to the letter. so i pulled that one out and put my old cmc back in and it gave me better pressure and i also put in a steel breaded line, since i was taking it all apart anyways.
So now after all that!!! It won't let me put shift into gears! bleed the lines like crazy! pushed a ton of fluid through and it give good pressure but won't let me put it into gear... could it be syncros???? or should i try a new cmc first, which i plan on doing... but i'm just lost... thanks

It's not likely your synchros were fine one day and not the next. I would replace the CMC with a refurbished/used/new one first and go from there. If you've got a friend with a working civic you could always borrow theirs if you've got a convenient day for both of you. That would be the cheapest (free) route to see if that's the problem before tearing down your transmission.
yeah, i was going to go with the cmc being the problem first... with the holidays coming up i don't need a tanny problem right now! lol, but i'm going to get a cmc and try that out first... if it's not that any other suggestions?
ok, so thought i would update this problem and let y'all know where i'm at now... yeah this is taking way to long but i work full time, have a full time lady and a dog... so life is busy...
so i replaced the master cylinder and slave cylinder, i went through a couple of master cylinders, i bought a omni power cmc but couldn't get it to work properly so i thought, and just went to advanced and got a $50 cmc and plugged that one up, i also had to get a new hardline for the top, cause i wasn't using a pipe wrench and messed up the compression screws... the right tools make all the difference! so got the new line, plugged it up. Also got a steel breaded line but it didn't want to work proper (leaked) so i put the rubber line back in.
So I'm sitting at stock replacement right now, bled the line, no air, nothing but clear fluid coming throw, had my roommate pump while I closed and opened the bleeder. I got good pressure on the peddle, no leaks and felt great until i started the car and it wouldn't shift into gear. So i adjusted the screw on the peddle a little thinking that it wasn't pushing enough fluid... and nope still won't go into gear, adjusted a few more time with the same result...
I've read up and have seen other guys with the similar symptoms, saying it ultimately was the clutch that had gone bad. something broke or the got bent, or burnt out. For that past month while it was working, it did start to get harder and harder to shift into gear. Some days were butter and other i was near kicking it into gear, then one day it didn't as i was shifting into gear at my drive way... sucked!! but the next morning it shifted ok but not good.
So couple of my buddies say clutch, some say internal, like above mentions synchros... i know i need to open it up and pull the tranny, but before all that just want to see if any one has had something similar apart from what i've read, which points to other cars or model civics, not really mine...
Thanks!

. Now problem is gone, tranny shift smooth.
I had the same problem that you have couple weeks ago. I went through all the trouble swapping CMC and CSC and still had that problem. I thought about the synchronizer gears, but it turn out to be my clutch, it was completely wear out pretty bad. I replaced the clutch + pressure plate, and lighter flywheel

Awww.....dang it. I was going to tell you that your clutch is gone but it seems like they beat me to it. I do believe your clutch is gone because you can shift it when it's not on but when your car is on, you can't shift it into gear. I ran into a problem like that a year ago.
so update... i pulled the transmission and i'm in the process of changing out the clutch, haven't gotten the pressure plate off yet... no extra willing hands... going to try and makeshift something to hold the flywheel in place... but hopefully i can have it off tonight.. i went ahead and bought a new clutch and flywheel.. COMPETITION CLUTCH Stage 2 FTW!!! and the Steel Lightweight flywheel... looks sooo clean.. i already replaced the T/O bearing and man it spun like the wind... so that'll be good to have replace anyways! cleaned the hell out of trans... and going to clean the outside while i have it out... 100k miles worth of grease build up... but that's where i'm at... i'll post some pics later of the clutch when i get it off!
WELL SHE'S BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN!!!
Finally found out what was causing the problem... i have to say i really appreciate all the advice and help i was given!
So sequence of events!
1. Full change out of Hydro Clutch System, new MC, New Hard Line A, new SC. = not the problem
2. New Clutch and Flywheel, went with Competition Clutch Stage 2, Street Light Flywheel
So effin happy with that choice but still no shifting! = not the problem.
3. Banged my head on the wall = not the problem
4. Noticed that the clutch bracket would move a good bit when i pushed in the pedle.... had my honda guru buddy come over and take a look at all i had done and he noticed it, after the getting the pressure on the clutch to perfect and adjusting the CMC rod, he saw the peddle moving alot! more than what it should, so after thinking and more wall banging, i saw a bolt mounting bracket above the peddle bracket and a slot hole on the bracket and put 1 and 1 together. so i found a bolt that fit the hole and secured the bracket! YES!!!! Finally i thought this should do the trick, only to find out that my battery was dead... so 30 min later... YES!!! this should do the trick! and it did!
So moral of the story, check and check and check again that all the holes and brackets are mounted properly! I can't say that this was the problem that i was having, cause my clutch was pretty burnt out and have maybe 1/16 of pad left and the springs on it were really loose, and my hydro system was over 100k miles old and the cmc was really squishy! so could have been a lot of reasons or just missing a bolt... but my baby is running like a champ and hooking up like a prostitute on Saturday night!
