So Here's my first build thread ever, hopefully I won't screw this up too bad. Here's the news: wrecked my 1997 Milano Red hatch and now I'm planning a full overhaul of it. First up on my list a new front end, which I will order from Password: JDM, and Radiator support. Then I'll decide on what color to repaint the whole car, inside and out. Right now I'm leaning towards a really bright white. Engine will probably be the last thing I decide on and I'll just see what falls into my lap. I already had a pretty built suspension, so I'll stick with most of that, but swap out my old eGay coil overs with some better ones. I'm seeing a lot of spoon parts throughout with a seekers wing to top it all off. Not sure on rim choice either, but I'm open to suggestions! Let me know any tips, hints, or thoughts! As soon as I can get a flickr or some image account I'll post pics. speaking of which, what's the best sight for that?

Make sure frame is not tweaked. If it is, you're probably better off buying a new shell.

 

Thanks man, and I have pics, I just can't figure out how to upload them. And The frame apears to be fine, the front bumper suport is warped, but that's all, the rest was mostly conmetic. Thank God it was a truck I hit haha

Suggestion:
I know absolutely NOTHING about them, but perhaps you could go a route less traveled with the motor:
Instead of a D series of B series, go get a K24 from a newer Accord and cram that booger in there!
More expensive...but more unique too ^^

I don't mean to call you a liar, and I am very glad you are okay but, look at the skid mark from the passenger side tire. You were traveling much faster than 20 mph. I'm glad you are safe and that your car is fixable but come on.

Yeah, and IIRC airbags won't deploy at speeds of less than 35 mph as well.

 

Well I was doing 30 when I hit the brakes, so I estimated about 20 upon impact. and theiy're actually EM1 Si seats. The accord K24 is a route that I've thought of, but I don't know too much about them. I would go at it with the "let's see" aproach, but That's a swap where mounts need to be cut and welded and it's very tricky to go back to something other than a K. Now truley unique would be those new F2K swaps. those are sick, but like 6 grand all and all haha too much for this poor white guy.

haha well actaully... I have thought of J seires and I do know where one is, but I'm thinking of simplicity and something a little less drag-ready lol. After looking into the K swap and crunching numbers, they are horribly overpriced. I could build and turbo my D16 for a quarter of the price at most and wax a K24. So now I'm considering that.. I have a TD04 turbo laying around, may strap that to a built head and block and eventually upgrade the turbo. decisions decisions.... This is why the motor and color of the car will be the last thing that I choose. haha

 

So update on the build so far: Gotten the engine wiring harness, fuse box, etc. pulled out of it, preparing the engine to be pulled and got the radiator support off of it. Now I'm going to start prepping the bay and stripping out the interior bits to get ready for paint. I can't for the life of me make up my mind about the engine. I've been pricing swaps and comparing things... and to be brutally honest, I can't see why I shouldn't just build the **** out of my D series. For the price of an H swap I could have a bisi built head and partial bottem end. I'm toying with that and ITB's for it and making a nasty high comp build out of it. I think I know where I can get a Y8 head from too. hm... I understand starting with that much power would be nice, because then I could build off of that, but B, H, and K parts are ***** expensive and D parts are cheap for what you get. I'm kind of ballin' on a budget so I may just use what's available so to speak.

 

go K series if you can afford it.
OTHERWISE build a BADASS boosted D16

I always felt that twin cams are superior to single cams simply because they offer more mechanical tuning ability. Meaning twin cams give you the ability to tweak cam overlap whereas you obviously cannot do that in a single cam. Personally I'm a B series kind of guy.

 

potato -potado to each their own. i just rebuilt my lil D series with forged internals and just waiting on money so i can tune and enjoy my 300hp d series build. i also bought a k24 crv motor a while back for 500 dollars il prob swap that in my type S with my z1 head just because it will be less of a headache and more of a plg and play swap then throwing it in my EJ 4dr. goodluck on your build!

 

Thanks for the ideas folks! And I definitly understand what you're talking about withe DOHC V SOHC thing. It's no big secret that DOHC's are more tunable and have a greater "potential" so to speak; but for the price of a Type R swap, I could dwarf that power with a fully built and boosted D. I'm not looking for insane power, just some fun to throw around on the street and track. And as for the K... haha I have nowhere NEAR enough money for that because if I did, I'd do it to the max with all of the goodies and that gets a little pricey working part time haha. So by writing all of this out I think that I'll build my Y7 with forged interals, get a Y8 or Z6 head and stuff it with Bisimoto parts and throw on a TD04-9B I have laying around for good measure. Eventually I'll get a bigger turbo, but that may have to wait. Before I do anything else though, I need to fix my front end; so I'm putting the (car)t before the horse(power). :p Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be getting my radiator support and having it welded in, then comes the process of saving, something that I am awful at lol. Christmas is going to slow me down some.

 

A boosted D-series definitely offers bang for your buck. You should also check out H2B swaps, they're pretty cool, kind of offer the power of a k with less work and money. Although, according to my calculations, a full H2B would be about $6k. I think a K would end up being much more when all was said and done. A B series is probably your best bet if you decide against boost in terms of cost and performance, the GSR is hard to beat. Good luck with the build!
