Default Engine swap questions?

Hello, i currently have a D16y7 in my car and some of the wiring is messed up. To solve these problems I just want to convert it back to OBD0. While im doimg this, Id like to do a minime swap to gain hp and vtec. Here is my question, would I be able to use my y7 block? Or would I have to go get an a6 block?. Id like to put a z6 head on it if that helps. I want to stay D series since its cheaper.

You can use the Y7 block.
You do not want to be dropped to OBD-0 for the mini-me.
Strongly suggested you get a P28 ECu for the Z6 and fix your wiring to run OBD-1 properly or else you are going to be doing weird things to get vtec to work.
You could cross your fingers and hopre to find an OBD-0 PR3 (for the SiR B16), but I don't think that will run your D motor as well as the P28 can.

Yeah, I considered that. But I want to do it right and replace my current hackjob of a wiring harness. What would I need to do a CORRECT OBD1 Conversion? If I used a D16Z6 Head?

Im just in the preliminary stages of what I would need, trying to get a list together: So far I want to replace.

D16Z6 Head

Wiring Harness

go back to the basics. and find a mint condition harness that matches your car. and do the modifications as needed to obd1. if your are ok with wiring, you will be fine.

the hard part will be finding a mint condition harness, because a majority of the harnesses out there are close to 20yrs old and have brittle wire. if you need one built i can build one for you.

but as stated before, do consider staying obd1 as you will be better suited with a P28 for your mini me build.

get a b18a or b18b for like 500, full swap.
it's going to add a little more for things like mounts, shift linkage, etc.
but it'll be way worth it. Than later down the line, LSV. (:

I agree the torque is something to smile about.

my mini me will accelerate up hill (like a steep hill nothing pansy like) from 2k rpms on at part throttle. a6/z6 mini me here. no need to b swap if the op has good stuff.

o/p what is your current full set up? is it obd1? was a jumper harness used if it is?

most jumper harness's include a seperate o2 sensor signal wire, so really all you would need to do is get a clean engine harness from the jy (easy if you have a non si, ex, hf, or rt4wd) then convert that to mpfi, then make a sub harness for vtec, o2 sensor, and vtec pressure sensor. for the dizzy plugs i personally have de pinned the dizzy plugs at the fire wall connectors on my engine harness and replaced everything with obd1 so there's no solder on my distributor wiring

Yeah theres no Jumper harness.. haha its all rigged up. I was just checking the ECU pinouts for the hell of it and one I can remember that was real messed up was the pinout for the O2 Sensor white wire, was a Red/Black TPS wire.

I would do a B series swap, but I cant find one less that 1000.

Damn thats sucks when people half *** swaps. And 1000 for a b18 i just saw one here (Derby) for 450 and it had decent mileage. That sucks.

Yeah, originally I wanted a b16a but :O Expensive. I thought maybe a B18A would be cheaper, it is but not by much.

So Im thinking y7/z6 head.

Yeah that would be the best route for your money. But im still thinking you should go obd1. You can just do so much more with it imo. Just make sure you do it right with the right jumper harness.

I want to do it right. Im just not sure the course of action? Should I rip out the current harness, and wire it OBD0 than get a jumper harness?

You could but you would have to get it chipped for vtec. And i would rip out the current wiring harness if it isnt salvageable. If it its not then try and find a clean odb0 (one that hasnt been touched and hacked and try and find one that is already mpfi so you dont have to convert it). Then you will need an obd0 to odb1 jumper harness and an odb1 dizzy with a dizzy jumper harness (about 150 bucks from Xenocron) and you will have to wire in a 4 wire o2 sensor. Then i would probably ditch the PO6 and get a chipped p28 or a virgin p28 and chip it yourself (cost you like 35 to 40 bucks) and get a good mini me basemap from xenocron or phearable.net. Then wire it all in and your done!

Im sure you can find a write up that will guide you through step by step good luck!

Well, because people say in other threads that it gives you 35.672 extra horsepower to the wheels...

"Dioxine" have you ever chipped an ECU before? Do you know how hard it is without the proper tools? It's easier to lift a track than it is to get some of the solder out of the main bus holes. Go and buy one of those garbage "Radio Shack" style soldering irons and some desoldering wick and tell me how long it takes you. You need to at minimum have a lower end solder station and the "Hakko" desoldering guns. I chip an ECU, VTEC and NON-VTEC/ auto and manual, about once every week or few. Back in the day it was a time consuming process; now it takes under a hour start to finish with a full conversion and chip...

Also, it's a lot cheaper to chip a P28 ECU than you think... $16 - it's the initial few hundred dollar investment to "do it right" that will get you.

1000 for a b18 swap???? damn. i just picked one up for 450, and that gave me the whole front end of the integra. check through local junkyards and CL, you should deffintly be able to pick one up cheap.

but going mini-me, grab a new harness from a junkyard or someone on here with a p28 and start from there.. unless your capable of redoing the harness you have now

LOL!
To the 3rd decimal even!

I like how he suggested a basemap on that chipped ECU as well.
Scary.

I'm just going to look around for an OBD0 Wiring harness. I know a junkyard that has a few Civic SI's. Should I get everything from the ECU/Gauge Cluster/Fusebox to the engine bay?
