ABS FAIL SAFE RELAY-R? cant find it
my breaks have been giving me probs since i bought this car. i checked my codes and im throwing 6-4, fails safe relay-R. i searched but cannot seem to find the location for this relay? does anyone know where it is, would like to fix this prob today if possible.
They're (front/rear) a pair of relays in the right/front corner of the engine compartment. Probably within 4-6 inches of the radiator overflow, held by a bracket attached to the passenger side frame rail.
At least, on a G3.. ; ' )
Good luck

I just had a post on this on that I didn't know what those two relays are. If you find the post titled "relays on frame rail" you'll see what we're talking about.
i found the relays, got a new one and swapped it in and my light is still on. so i switched it to the other relay and still nothing. the relay i used was from a 94 civic because i couldnt source one from an integra. that was the only code i was throwing, could it be something else that is making me throw that code?
6-4 is code for the rear fail-safe relay. Possible causes listed are:
1. Short to power in the relay drive circuit between the fail-safe relay and ABS control unit.
2. Faulty relay drive transistor (ON) in the ABS control unit.
3. Fail-safe relay stuck ON
4. Short to power in the solenoid drive circuits between the fail-safe relay and ABS control unit.
under 'description of diagnosis' it states: "The ABS indicator light is turned on when battery voltage is detected at the solenoid terminal before the fail-safe relays are turned on at the initial diagnosis.'
To check the relay, use an ohm meter to check for continuity between relay terminals C and D. Terminals A and B should be connected when power is applied to C&D, and no connection between A&B when power is disconnected from C&D.
To figure out which terminals are a/b/c/d, lay the relay on the table in front of you with the terminals facing you and the bump (for latching the connector) 'up'. In that position, facing the terminals on the bottom, A is top left, B is bottom left, C is top right, D is bottom right.
The rest is on pages 19-100 of the Haynes manual.
If you're up to checking pins on some of the connectors we might be able to find a scan of the page somewhere.
Bottom line seems to be:
a) relay, OR
b) ABS controller (rear - right rear quarter panel under the interior panels), OR
c) short in the wiring
You might trace the wiring up the passenger side between the controller/relays/ABS and see if you can spot anything loose, shorted, not fully connected, water-soaked, etc...
Good luck,
Mark

well i got another relay, put it in and now im throwing code 7-4. solenoid R? i bought this car with alot of probs and this is the last thing that needs to be fixed. i searched again and cant seem to find any info on changing the solenoid. is it an integrated part of the pump or is something i can simply change out? i really appreciate the responses and that last one helped out alot. any ideas?
The rear relay is the one right next to the one you replaced. Slightly different connector pattern - the two smaller pins are power to actuate the relay, and the bigger close when power is applied.
There are over 7 pages of diagnostics for this one... you can find the factory service manual online: the pages are 19-112 thru 19-119. The second to last page of section 19 has the relay pinout.
