91 accord dying randomly
Hey everybody... I have a 91 accord, all stock, 223k miles on it. I was driving to work this morning and it just quit running completely. I coasted into my parking spot and tried to start it. It turned over very strong, but wouldn't fire. So I went inside to work, and tried it again on my first break, and it fired right up. I was originally thinking it was the fuel pump, but now I'm not so sure. Can anyone help me diagnose this? Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the response... I haven't checked either yet... I pulled the dist cap (I thought I would start with the easier stuff first), and it had a bit of oil in it. So I pulled the distributor off because the seal is obviously failing, and that is as far as I've gotten. My thought now is the oil has to pass THRU the dist to get into the cap, so I am going to have the coil and module tested to make sure that they are still functioning correctly.
You can listen for the fuel pump going when you click to "on." If it's not, there's a good chance it's a main relay.
As for the distributor, did you do a spark test before pulling everything apart?

find the main relay.. its under the cruise control computer.. left of the steering column.usually orange and gray or off color case and relay switch. take that ****er out then pop er open.. you will have two broken solder points for every 1 broken solder point. so there will be an even number of broken points.. look for a ring on the bottom of the point.. either you can a drop 58 bucks and replace it or re solder the points.. i resoldered mine back in may and she is still running strong.. knock on wood.
My 93 was doing this about a month ago. It would run fine until it warmed up, then die. I wasn't able to restart it right away, it would just turn over. If I waited a few hours, then tried, it would fire right up and the cycle would repeat. I replaced the distributor and the car runs like a champ again.

My 92 Accord coupe did this same thing awhile ago. I thought it was a fuel pump to but it turned out it was either the ignition coil or ignition module. I replaced both and i havent had a problem since.
I wasn't getting oil in my distributor cap, but there was a reason I ruled out the main relay. I believe it was because when my car died, it didn't stutter and the RPMs didn't jump at all, it went straight to 0.
