37* BTDC On Stock Integra LS
I have a stock 96' LS Teg with an injen cai being the only engine mod. Got my smog done and failed only two points (Cali). They saw my timing was at 37* BTDC.
Long story short, I got my timing belt water pump done at a shop, they sucked *** and couldnt really do it right the first time (fluctuating idle), then the second time I gave the car to them they fixed the idle.
That job was done almost 1 yr ago and 9k miles ago.
Driving the car is perfect, idle is fine and power is smooth throughout the powerband.
So ive been running 37* BTDC for 9k miles.
Ive used 87 octane all the time except for about 4 fill ups with 91.
I recently bought a timing gun but have not gotten to change the timing yet.
Can this be possible for a stock LS B18B?

It's not possible unless your timing belt was installed two teeth advanced on the intake or unless you have a chipped ECU in there.
Take it to a competent shop for a second opinion.

They said that the mechanical timing was off it will run like crap no matter how advance your ignition timing is.
So are you saying the belt is off a tooth or more, and they turned up the timing to compensate for their shitty job?
Is turning up ignition timing compensate for being off a tooth? In the other thread I had, they said it will run like crap if it is off a tooth.
Like I stated in your other thread, it would run like crap if your mechanical timing is off. But maybe advancing it to 37* would compensate it since that's a **** load of timing added.
Ok, so its possible to turn up the timing then to compensate. Thanks! So retarding it back to 16 degrees will probably make it run worse then now if its off a tooth, i'd have to take off the belt and put it back on right i guess.
Thanks for the input! I asked this same question down in the Integra thread's and I got alot of these responses: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2992998

Car might actually run OK, until you rev higher...then it will act goofy.
I had a similar situation happen with a mechanic where they retarded my cam by two teeth...it was a DOG down low, and screamed at Higher RPM. Actually that situation was exactly how I got into playing with my car and ended up learning what I have, so I should go thank that jerk off!

Sorry for not updating this for a long time. My car is now fixed.
The mechanical timing was incorrect. The timing belt was in fact a tooth or two off on the intake and exhaust.
Timing is now dead on @ 16* BTDC.
