well, if its a stop, the WRX will getcha out of the hole, but every stock WRX ive ever raced, halfway through second i start reeling them in, and by the end of the 1/4 at the track im usually a bit ahead, but not by much at all! AEM CAI and Greddy catback EVO. And MAdD DrIVinG SkIllZ yO! but either way itll be close, talk him into doing it from a roll and you should be ok...
define "race"
1. Drag racing (from standstill? rolling start from 5mph?, from 50mph?)
2. Autocross (tight? or open course?)
3. Road Course (tight? or open course?)
4. Same driver for both cars?
Your question is a question that is asked numerous times and that we are all curious to the answer. But, there isn't an answer because there are too many variables. Both cars are great cars.
In autocross, I get to drive a few cars. The WRX is fast but doesn't feel it. It is heavier, brakes are ok (not great), but you when driven properly, can give great autocross times, close to an ITR.
I would suggest, taking your buddy to an autocross and a drag strip and race there. Also, switching cars. That would be a good test.

The WRXs best feature is straight line accel.
The ITR's worst feature is its straight line accel.
I think the 1/4 mile times are close, 0-60 wrx will beat its ***.

Drag racing wise the WRX has the advantage. AWD+boost is always a winner at the strip, plus with simple mods the wrx can gain substantial hp, while the R doesnt. On the autox both are good performers, but the R would win given equal drivers.
u dont stand much of a chance on the drag...but on the highway..pleeze!! wrx's r nothing...last nite, we were all ****** around...and my buddy has a wrx wagon with intake exhaust and manual boost controler, he had his car set at 1.1 bar and i was half a car ahead of him in the end....rollin start...70-130mph...but so yeah...if ur talkin speed, over all...u'll beat a stock wrx easily..especially passed mph...for some odd reason tho my car was runnin exceptionally well...chirping 4th gear??? wow....peace guys
I just traded my '00 ITR for a '03 WRX about a week + 3 days ago. I've only got 500 miles on it and I'm waiting for the 1k mileage mark to really push the car. I will give a full review (of my opinions on both) in about 2 weeks. Just give me a little time and look for my post here. I'm going to try the dragstrip to get a stock time and definately an AutoX. I won't be getting on the roadcourse with my WRX anytime soon. This is my beater/daily driver.
So far I can say this much...the WRX and ITR are COMPLETELY different cars and really probably shouldn't be compared.
ITR
-Light, nimble, excellent road suspension
-Hi-revving inline 4 cyl
-Probably the best FF handling car in the US (**** the Mazdaspeed Protege)
hehe
-Somewhat loud, somewhat harsh...race prepped
WRX
-Heavier, more practical
-AWD, horizontally opposed turbo 4 cyl
-4 door sedan...did I mention it was practical.
-Rally inspired suspension
-Quiet, good daily driving susp, more creature comforts
With all this said so far, everyone here knows there is more potential with the AWD turbo WRX. More hp for less $$. I don't know if I can ever say the WRX could handle as good as an ITR on a roadcourse. I've driven VERY modifyied ITRs, but never a WRX yet.
Stay tuned for my full review in about 2 weeks.

stock WRX vs bolt on mods on itr ....
itr will start pulling at 3rd redline and up~
but wrx and itr will never be in same class~
went i went to drag~ i NEVER can pull anyone at launch and 1st and 2nd gear~ but starts to pull bad from 3rd redline and up~

well it depends on consistancy since FWD arnt very consistant. your time will vary. and stock R is supose to go 14.7 drag. and a WRX is supose to go bout 14.4-14.7 (not very sure bout WRX) but since the R is modded the out come might be different. but the WRX's times will be the same all day long. since he can basically do Redline launches. and the R will have to do very precise launches.
