That Evil SRS light won't go away D: (Please Help)
Hello, Ive been trying to reset my SRS light for about 3 weeks now. I replaced the seats and while the seats were out I thought i'd be a cool guy and act like I was driving with no seats..
I actually started the car. After installing the new seats I noticed this Red SRS light on my dash. I did nothing else but mess with the SRS plugs beneath the seats. I tried doing the DIY reset and it went smooth except the light just won't stay out. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. (= I have a 2002 Civic ex. Never had this problem before.

so the light is staying on? or does it go out and then come back on after?
If its not going out, you might not be properly resetting it.
Id suggest pulling the code for the SRS and find out whats actually tripping it, it will tell you what the problem is and you can take it to the next step to repair or replace.
I used this when i had a problem with my SRS

Even tho its for a RSX, it works the exact same on the EM2's and ES1's
If you decide to use this method to pull the codes, MAKE SURE YOU JUMP ONLY THOSE PORTS, IF YOU PLUG INTO THE WRONG ONE YOU WILL CAUSE A SHORT, WHICH = BAD
turned out it was my drivers side belt buckle switch, apparently they are very well known to fail, and if you live in Canada like me Honda will not do a damn thing for you, i believe in the US they will replace it under some kind of life time warrenty, Canada doesnt have that same policy. I just live with the light now, i reset it from time to time but it always comes on again, and i reset it again after, vicious cycle.

I had a similar issue. I later found out after taking it to Honda that the seat belt buckle was faulty. However for some reason I wasnt charged anything. The mechanic had said there had been a recall for it. A month later my buddy with a 2001 ex was send a letter stating a recall on certain seat belt buckles.
Thanks for the speedy replies. I will Try this out. it blinks like its supposed to (when I tried to reset it) but when I start the car its supposed to go off with all the other lights, It just stays on. It never blinks any other time.
I did have problems with the driver side seat belt, it wouldn't ever buckle in with out me having to slam the crap out of it. I shot a short burst of penetrating oil in and it fixed the problem. that was when I first bought the car about 4 months prior to this.
I'll reply later with my findings (=

It gave one code and its a 21-1 (main: rapid blink - rapid blink - one blink. few seconds go by. Sub: one blink)
^^ Open or increased resistance in the driver's side belt buckle tensioner^^
Is that dealing with where the belt actually goes back into the car?
I'm doing anything to fix this. that darn little light is so annoying..

Its extremely common for these to fail. If you in the US, take it to your dealer, theres a life time warrenty on seat belt and its parts.
If your in Canada, live with the light, your **** out of luck unless you wanna fork out a few hundred bucks.

Took it to the dealership today and they said it wasn't covered under warranty. I talked to everyone I could find! they said its not covered if it still works. they only replace it if the seat belt buckle doesn't clip in properly. And he also added nothing that is electronically wrong with SRS is covered under warranty. Ill be working at it the next few days.. (=
Call America Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Resolve your problems there. The exclusions from warranty coverage are damage, abuse and misuse.

I've had that light for a few years now. It's good to know that Honda will fix it for free if the seat belt is jacked up, which mine is. Now I just gotta get back to the states...
Best answer in universe (laughing). Traded in car!

Have a 01 Civic Ex, bought new, every option, even spoiler. Honda worked on this issue so many times I lost count. They finally said 'can't be fixed', have no idea if airbags would deploy on collision or not. Still am sick of the light, have reset all through the years, still just comes back on, grrrr. Likely removing bulb in cluster (if I can find, great suggestion), Thanks! P.S. this car is mint, except for a slight head gasket leak, 275k miles!
Post in a new thread so you dont bringup an old one from 2011.
you have to let us know which seat is affected driver or passenger seat.
you have to get a special screwdriver and take apart the Buckle and clean out the crap on the small sensor that has to trip when you put in the buckle. That little switch builds up with junk in there and sets off the SRS light.
if that doesn't work then you have to test the Integrity of the wires all the way back.
disconnect the battery before you do any of that work
