As many people may be aware that the speedometer may act up on the 94-97 (5th generation Accords), with the usual culprit being the circuit board in back of the speedometer head. Generally, the fix was to replace the circuit board with a used one to retain the original mileage on the odometer. See this thread out of the many on this forum:

Although a few people have been able to re-touch some of the solder joints and have their speedometer working again, most have not been able to. I no longer have my 5th generation Accord; however, I did previously have the speedometer problem. Since I still have the old part around and like to tinker, I've been examining the board for a while. I tested many of the resistors and capacitors, etc. on the board and they do not appear to be the problem. Although some people may speculate it may be a problem with the 2 IC chips on the board, my best guess is that it is not the IC chips; but, that it is the 4.19 mhz ceramic resonator at fault.

The 4.19 mhz ceramic resonator appears to be a 3-pin type, made by Murata. A 3-pin ceramic resonator has a built-capacitor, whereas a 2-pin does not.

I found what appears to be the correct Murata part at digi-key for $0.49 each. Shipping is inexpensive if you choose regular U.S. first class mail.

Although I no longer have my 5th gen Accord to test the fix on, I ordered a couple of the ceramic resonators to play around with. Total costs was less than $4.

I am just throwing this out there to possibly help others, so if other are willing to spend a few bucks and do a little soldering, they may be able to fix their speedometer problem without resorting to getting a used one.

i just got a 94 ex wagon, odometer stopped at 96k miles. dont know when it stopped working. title milage says 95k. i have 2 parts clusters, tool one apart. how hard is it to change a 208k to 96k so i can put in in my car.

 

Wouldn't you just switch the PCB from one to the other?

 

THE RESONATORS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM
I have 3 speedos laying around. I ordered 3 resonators using the link provided by redbull, paid $10 including S&H, installed 2 of them in 2 non-working circuit boards for a 1994-1997 accord and they did not fix the problem. Im not gonna waste my time on the third. Most likely one of those big chips on the board are bad. This fix is a lost cause.

 

Not a lost cause, yeah don't toy with parts. This can be fixed without buying anything. Except tin foil. I took out the speedo pcb, wraped the top part with the chips and cap in tin foil left bottom solder points open for re-flow. Make 4 tin foil ***** to lift the pcb off the cookie sheet. Pre heated over to 450f, 15min at 450f don't touch it at 15min open door and leave to cool. Re-install should be good to go. This has worked and especially on the ECU, it was a complete and utter fix for my ECU.

FYI - I have years of trial and error on what temp/ time combo is perfect and found 450F at 15min exactly does it every time. If you have temp error on your oven leave for 25min.
