Tach jumps and engine skips??
I don't know what is wrong with my car. My tach will jump around wildly and the engine will skip like it's misfiring whenever the tach jumps. I know it has something to do with the distributor, because if I take the distributor off and take it apart and put it back together and put it back on, it will run fine for a while. Then it will start back doing the same thing. I tightened all the connectors and put dielectric grease on them. I even bought a new rotor button. What could it be?

Check the coil of igniter in the distributor. I think I recall someone having a similar prob and one of those items was the cause. You may also want to ask this question in the Tech forum.

Well I found out that it has nothing to do with my distributor. I put my friends distributor on my car and it still did the same thing. Then I put my distributor on his car and it ran fine. So what could it be? I'm thinking that my wire harness has a short in it. What do you guys think?
have you done anything recent to the car. That may be a cause.Or maybe you timing, wires, swap parts with you friend till you find the problem... happy hunting.

my car is doing the same thing..plus i'm getting interference through my radio...i hate it, i've changed everything but the distributor..i wasted money on a new cap, rotor.ignitor, plugs, and its still doing it....
Re-crimp all of the connections on your ignitor! I had this same problem too! Also put a dab of dielectric grease inside of the connector b4 you slide it on. Make sure those connections are tight.
is your car grounded properly?
