My 07 honda accord is silver and i want to repaint it . is there a law or do i have to tell the DMV that i painted my car.

 

It varies from state to state.

In new york, you need to tell the DMV (and often your insurance too, I believe) that the car was painted so they can print you a new registration with the proper color on it. Not doing so will warrant a fix-it ticket I believe, or something of that nature.

As for the legality of the paint itself, it also varies from state to state. California is really hard on DIY car paint, and on body shops whereas in my state there are relatively few restrictions.

My suggestion: Don't touch the paint on the car unless you have the funds to do the paint job properly. It is pricey, but it will be relatively cheaper to paint a car with factory paint in decent condition with few or no blemishes than it would to paint an older car (and, if you're doing it properly, start at the metal and work your way up.) Find a reputable shop in town, get quotes, ect before even thinking about it.

 

ya i live in a city where theres auto shop on every corner. i know a place that will paint for 300$

 

And I recommend you stay far, far away from that place. That is a surefire way to ruin a next to new car.

Not most quality materials, keep in mind they will probably scuff and shoot without even a sealer thought. 300$ isn't unreasonable for a gallon of base and clear and activators but you have to factor in labor as well...

 

Sounds like a chop shop.

I don't even think I'd spray paint a car for $300 if someone offered me. Too much time and effort.
