Which do you prefer and why? Please let us know what turbo you are using at this moment. I think the most important part is how does it exit the turn. Is it worth it to go BB for road racing?
GT28RS, ball bearing. Spools instantly off the corners. Just have to get the wheels straight more or less before nailing it. Why would you even consider old school non BB turbos?

I plan on using BB but just wondering if there are any other users that have done Non BB and have done quite well on the track because of slow response can have better traction.
I also have a GT28RS (aka Disco Potato). The GT28RS is popular for road race guys because of it's quick spool time and it's pressure map fits nicely for a road race setup. I really don't think a non-bb turbo of the same trim will have a noticeable effect on response time considering you rarely drop below 3k rpm on most tracks. Personally, I went with the RS model because of longevity concerns. I'm on track 20-30 minutes at a time and on the throttle 75% of that time. The turbo is going to get warm. Non-bb turbo will work, but I do not think it will be able to handle the abuse as long a bb turbo will.
Besides, it's false logic. Less power doesn't produce more (or better) traction, it just makes it harder for the driver to exceed the limit of the traction that is available.
i run non BB turbos because they are very cheap to rebuild when something dies in the engine and kills them. its happened a couple times. ugh.
seriously though, i love how cheap they are. my car runs a borg warner GM8 diesel turbo. on my f23/f22head combo, it hits rediculously hard. always spooled. i need nothing more from response. its almost too much, and can be "jumpy" in corners if i'm having a tough time being smooth with the throttle inputs. tiny little inputs to the throttle = launches across track, because it spins 225 hoosiers very easily in a 2000lb car.
its a lot of fun. a lot of the fun is how cheap it was to build , and how cheap it is to maintain. makes about 300HP/300Tq too.
