JDM hatch rear seats into USDM 96-00 Civic
So I bought some EK4 rear seats for my hatch the front seats bolt right in everything lines up perfectly.
The rear seats dont fit at all problem is the bolts are all opposite, if anyones ever removed the rear seats from their car they would know what I'm talking about, basically everything bolts on the opposite side. THe bottom piece fits but does not hook in at the same location as the stock seats.
I was thinking about having an upholstery shop swap out the fabric from the JDM seats over to the USDM seats. But got to thinking it might be possible to remove the foam and everything if is its just fitted over the metal frame. Does anyone have any experience with this? I know the black EK9 seats are the same and will not bolt in, but still see plenty of people with EK9 recaro rear seats.
Seats look like this BTW

Here is a pic from honda of the seats/brakets

Anyway the JDM seats are different its hard to tell from this photo but the #6 and #16 are opposite each other. So where the passenger side seat would connect to the bracket in this photo. You have the driver side seat that would hook into the center bracket.
Heres another photo for some EK9 rear seats you can see there is just a pin the would fit into a bracket. There should be a bracket right there that connect to the rear of the seat with two 10mm bolts.

On our USDM seats that pin should slide into the center bracket but does not. Also the bottom cushion has 2 hooks the US ones are set farther away from the center while the JDM ones are place closer in. So you can only bolt in the rear of the seat.
I'll have to takes some actual photos later and update I was thinking I could drill out the passenger side but the center bracket doesn't fit nor does the driver side so that would be pointless. Plus I could never install the stock seats again if I decided to sell and part the car out.
Another option was to remover the foam/fabric then swap that over to the USDM seats internals. No sure if this is possible but seems you could easily swap the foam/fabric.

Well if anyone wants to know, only way to get EK9/EK4 seats to fit is by having an upholstery shop swap the fabric from the JDM seats to the USDM internals. Otherwise the seats will not bolt in.
**** cost me $150
but would have probably cost me close to that shipping the seats back to Hong Kong so meh... Also the ones with headrest you need to swap out the brackets they attach to on the inner metal framing. That means removing + cutting USDM stock seats so the brackets are recessed and line up correctly. Plus you have to remove them from the JDM seats. My buddy works for machine shop so was able to hook me up on welding. Anyway got the seats to fit finally, and everything bolts up legit
