Default Autopower base plate reinforcement

Hi.

Autopower roll bar base plate are not that large in term of total area. Do you think increasing the surface area of the base plate in contact with the floor would result in a stronger support ?

I am no engineer and can't think this thru, though I am pretty sure Autopower did this right.

I recently rebuilt a new chassis from scratch, and will be using an Autopower race roll bar for extra protection until it is fully caged. Before I put it in, I could easily have the base plate expanded.

Thanks for your 0.02$.

Patrick

The larger the footprint of the base plate the more spread the load on the chassis will be under impact. I have to also think that the larger the plate the more secure the connection can be..

Yup, most rule books have a *minimum* spec. Autopower's are pretty darn close to that.

many people have welded plates like a weld-in-rollcage would have, then bolt the autopower into that.

I have an autopower rollbar in my teg, and pretty much everyone that builds cages that I see at the track suggests enlarging the base plates. It should be a pretty easy fix and from what I was told by these cage builders, it will offer a lot more protection.

You've probably seen this, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQvlscJngh8 You can see the roll bar plates and tubing poking out of the floor of the car while the car is on the roof. Definitely not good.

Round the corners on the base plates, those sharp corners function like can openers.

Go to any metal supply place and have them cut you some 1/8 steel plate in a larger size. You can run it under the AP baseplate. The small AP baseplate is not safe in my opinion.

Very simple. yet very efficient. I'll definatly have some much bigger plates welded under the very small ones...with rounded corner.

Thanks for sharing, much appreciated !
