I recently purchased a 2006 Honda Civic EX, Automatic with 60,000 Miles. The Issue I am having is the car vibrates when at a complete stop in drive or reverse (Brakes applied). The vibration goes away when the car is in neutral. It is normally a faint vibration but sometimes get a little stronger, but I'm not quite sure due to what. I had my wife move through the gears while I watched the engine & the engine vibrated noticeably more when it was in drive or reverse.

First you need to determine why it's vibrating, bad plug, coil etc.

Then if it's not an engine problem it might be just a bad engine mount sending the movement of the engine thru the body.

Check for a bad plug or coil pack first, then if all is well check the mounts.

 

This is most likely a combination of one or both of the RH engine mounts. There is a liquid filled "pedestal" mount, and a dog bone roll stop mount which bolts on top of it and to the chassis. The same thing happened to my 07, vehicle would vibrate bad when cold, or in reverse, and go away. Eventually it gets worst and worst, until it will not stop doing it, and is extremely loud. It's usually the more expensive liquid filled mount which fails first, (I bought mine from Honda for around 160 some odd dollars), but if you let it go too long, it will kill the dog bone mount too.

 

i agree with ATBFG1...it is probably your engine mount. Have that checked out. i dont think you have to worry about breaking the dog bone mount though because the liquid filled mount will go out first and you will hear an unbearable noise especially at start up.

 

if i'm not mistaken there is a bulletin for the passenger side mounts now. see if you can see liquid running out of the lower half of the mount, i think we've replaced 3 in the past few weeks

 

I have similar issues.

 

you should also check your belts and pulleys. they can also cause the engine to shake.
