Taking out the axles
I am trying to get the axles out of my 97 Accord to swap the transmission and am wondering if there is any trick to it or if you just pry and bang on it till it comes loss. Also does it matter which side comes out first? Thanks for any help.

You should be able to fit a pry bar or a large screw driver between the transmission housing and the housing on the end of the shaft and simply pry it loose. I recently remove the shafts on my 91 Accord, and it was rather simple. There is usually nothing more than a snap ring that holds them in (along with the inability to really move anywhere else once the wheels and such are all mounted, obviously). On my vehicle, as the transmission is further toward the passenger side of the bay, there was an intermediate shaft that the driver side attached to; this snapped out just like it would if it was the passenger side. The intermediate shaft was attached to a bearing (and it's mount to the frame); remove the three bolts, and the shaft/bearing/mount come out as one piece.
X2. Replaced the left axle on my '96 last weekend and it popped right out. There's a 3/8" space between the inner joint and the differential to get a tool in there. A big screwdriver worked great.

Thanks for the replies. I managed to get the drivers side axle out pretty easily by using a pry bar, but the passenger side will not budge. I finally desided that since this one is going to replaced (the boot is torn on it), I am just going to remove the transmission with it in tact. Thanks for all of your help.
