86 crx as first honda project ?
hey guys im trying to get into hondas... i got offered an 86 crx HF for 400.00.. it runs and drives only problem is its fail-o-matic and carbed :\... ive been trying to google about swapping it to fuel injection (im popping in a y8). the manual swaps pretty straight forward so no worries about that... i have a good amount of knowledge and built two 300zxs, a probe se (turboed and swapped) and my current probe gt (auto x/daily build) i do know how to do a fair bit of wiring.. the y8 motor im getting for free from my friend who put a b in his del sol.. so that would be great to swap in... so can anyone get me some links to what stuff i will need to make this happen.. ive been googling the FI swap for 2 days now and all i keep getting is really generic explinations..
think its worth it or sould i just save up and wait for a second gen to come my way ?

86 isn't a fun car to work on.
They are quite a bit different than the 88~91 which is what you are probably reading about when you find the Y8 swap.
Since the current car is carburetor, you will need to do an engine harness swap to get the Y8 to work with it.
It's a very intense swap.
Going into an 88+ chassis is a walk in the park by comparison.

this is the only thing i found http://www.fondahonda.com/ looks like he changed the whole car harness or something
you mean a 4th gen?

to convert to fuel injection you are going to need the entire fuel system from a 1g CRX Si model - you will also need most of the wiring from a 1g CRX Si model (even with that, you will have a ton of wiring to do) - you will need a mount kit - Hasport makes one for installing the D-series engine with the 92 and up D-series hydraulic clutch transmission - good luck - glad it is you and not me!
1st gen isn't any harder to work on than newer ones (except for the carb stuff). The problem comes with finding parts. No love shown to them (even in the Honda Comunity) so not too many parts floating around. Maybe get it running and use it as a DD or parts runner. Or you can get it running and flip it for another car.

If you really want to pursue this car, I'd recommend www.redpepperracing.com over any other website.
