Very strange problem hesitates as crossing over into v-tec, vid inside, please help!!
Hi all, I bought my car which was originally a civic vti (b16) and had the engine changed for a B18C4. It was running fine but started to heavily smoke and so I replaced the B18C4 with another one which ran and worked perfectly in the car it was removed from. Since I've changed the engine I've had a problem that I cannot resolve. I've tried literally everything with no joy whatsoever.
The problem is when just before vtec crossover it hesitates for around 2/3 seconds then once it's properly into vtec it seems fine and revs all the way to the red line. Also worth noting is it doesn't seem to be as powerful as it should be.
I have replaced..
Engine oil castrol magnatec 10/40 semi syn
oil filter
fuel filter
vtec solenoid
oil pressure switch "back of block next to oil filter"
fuel rail
tried 2 different ecu's
Hopefully some one has experienced this problem. We've never had a problem we haven't resolved with civic's/B series but this one has been an absolute headache!

I would try engaging vtec manually with a switch or however you want to rig it up, aka unplug the vtec solenoid and run 12v to the solenoid around where vtec engages. If it still does it then there is probably something wrong mechanically under the valve cover. Make sure none of the plungers are sticking (not sure exactly what they look like on bseries).
If it engages correctly with the hotwire then its something that the ecm is doing.

what ecu's did you try if you were running the b16 ecu on the b18c4 untuned to the setup that is more than likely why your last engine started smoking and why you are getting your hesitation. and get that 10w40 out of there its too thick i've had oil pump failure before running too thick of an oil
