mrchaos' 1990 CRX Si Build Thread
I have been in LOVE with CRX's for as long as I can remember. I owned one about 12 years ago and unfortunately the engine went and couldn't afford to keep it on the road at that time.
In the 12 years since I have always wanted another one and have been waiting for a decent one to come along. They are getting more rare each rare and harder to find in stock condition.
Tonight I brought home this beauty. Pretty close to stock and in great shape for the age and area I live.
Plans are for a complete tear down and rebuild.

Managed to actually get out to the car and snap a few more pics.
Also, started removing the hacked in stereo and alarm. Unfortunately, not much time right now. We have a baby on the way and the house renos are taking priority.
More to come over the winter.

Yesterday I finished ripping out the alarm and stereo and started taking apart the interior.
Also ordered all new exterior trim for the car. I dont think I will be putting it back on for a couple of years but its harder and harder to find so it was time to buy.
Was also lucky enough to find 2 pretty damn close to MINT seats...even local to me. SCORE!!

Well its been about a year since an update...
But I finally have a place to work on the car whenever I want. I have moved into a new house with an attached double car garage that is all mine - the old place didn't have a garage. My wife has given approval to build a 24 x 32 garage next year but the attached garage is great for now.
Stripped off some more body panels...

And got some help (gonna make a her a total gear head)...

More updates tonight...

The CRX is the best honda ever made. Seriously. Love that car to death. I don't have one, but at least I have an EF. Close is close enough.
Good luck with the car. Make it clean.

More tear down done tonight...
Hatch off, sunroof out, rear bumper off - all parts bagged and tagged. Some in the shed outback others in the basement, all cataloged and labelled.
As of tonight...

Only rust so far...the sunroof tubes drain here

And one little surprise, it appears the car was hit in the rear in the past.

Also found a little issue around the windshield, not rust, but some bent metal. Will post a picture tomorrow.

Dash out, carpet out, other miscellaneous stuff too. Takes a while to remove each part when you have to bag, tag and flag and take a picture if necessary.

Floor appears in pretty good shape...

I'll finishing ripping out the interior in the next couple of days then get it up on jack stands to complete the tear down.

Got a couple more hours in tonight when the wife had a friend over.
Cabin harness is out, starting taking out the HVAC and a few other pieces

The dry ice trick for removing the tar really works. Brought home a cup from work tonight to test it out.

My basement is really turning into a Honda parts warehouse. Good thing my wife doesn't go down there much.

Engine is going to be a B16. I have one 'sitting around' from an EG I had about 8 years ago. Maybe I will throw a turbo at it. Going to worry about the body first then I'll get to the engine.
Just about completely stripped. Been to a few resto shops to price the repairs.
This is the worst spot on the car. Any ideas what these/this panels are called?

Dry iced the tar pads off tonight. I got 20 pounds from work; will need more to finish the trunk area.

It's completely up on jack stands. Front suspension is out.

Tar pads completely stripped. Interior done except for the trunk area.

Just need to get my hands on an engine hoist to get rid of this...

Final list before body work...
- Remove engine
- Remove glass
- Remove rear suspension
- Remove brake lines
- Remove gas tank
- Remove misc parts

Still got those floor mats? Cause I need some.
