Rebuilding B16a2 or LS/Vtec with it?
I'm getting ready to move cross country and be unemployed for the near future, and needed a project to work on. I wanted to keep the prices under $1500.
My B16A2 is burning oil, nothing really bad, but about a quart a month. I have a slight oil leak from either the distributor O ring, and it has a crappy unorthodox crank pulley with no timing marks. So there is a few things that I want to correct. I also custom built a harness for a tuck and was planning on pulling the motor to do it.
Now the question, should I rebuild the b16a2 with higher compression pistons and upgrade the cams? Or should I pick up a LS block and build a LS/VTEC? I'm pretty competent with a wrench and was wanting a project to while learning more about my motor, I just don't want to jump in over my head with the LS/VTEC and bust my budget.

thats true.
i mean i have a b16 into my ef hatch that im finishing up.
gonna do full bolt ons. and it will most likely keep up with the gsr.
now granted the gsr has more displacement and if gsr has full bolt ons, its gonna walk on the b16.
i personally like both. not really an LS fan. even if it is the LS-v.

$1,500 might not be enough for rebuilding block and vt+cams. Either set up. Bearings, arp rod bolts and studs, oil/water pump and machine work adds up.
Options:
1)Sell the B16 and find a JDM GSR long block
2)LSV: Use your pistons or RS Machine ITR/PR3, cams+vt= you might be over budget
3)Put new rings and bearings on your stock engine and call it a day
