ignition timing q's
Okay so I got my ls engine timed correctly. Now I'm into the ignition timing, I have the firing order set to 1,3,4,2 as it should be. Now my problem is I can't get the engine to start in any position of where the dizzy should be. It will however start if it is moved (advanced i think) toward the intake but the bolt holes on the dizzy will be about an inch past the bolt holes on the head before it will.
What OBD are you using? What distributor and ECU?
Sounds like your mechanical timing is WRONG or the position of your number one cylinder spark plug wire... More information is crucial to helping us help you...

I was reffering to the drive gear. But it usually will cause backfiring out of the intake and no running situations. Not sounding like the problem though. I would have to agree that is sounds like the mechanical timing is off. Take cap off and set the motor to top dead center. The rotar bug should be facing the number one cylinder point. Also keep in mind that the dizzy also controls when the injectors fire as well.

Not really... maybe you have a EDM engine that spins clockwise. They do drive on the wrong side of the road - but wait, so do people in Japan... is it because of the way the toilet water swirls? Then again, how can this be? When the stars are aligned it changes the comptitudeal araignsmet uf dusw Neal OS structiosksm...
Seriously though... the oil pump is near the crankshaft pulley right behind the timing cover. Stop standing on your head.

There is no timing cover on the engine neither is the balancer. The crank pulley has a little dot on one tooth the oil pump has an indention on the left side but the diagram from the f.s.m. shows it on the right.
If you dont have timing covers then the easiest way to time the motor is to get something long that you can put into the motor like a really long screw driver. Then you take out the number one spark plug and drop in the screwdriver, make sure its not to short that would suck. Then turn the motor over until the screwdriver comes all the way up. It will take a few tries to get it perfect. The arrows on the cam gears should be pointing up. And the sides should be lined parallel with the top of the head. You can find some pics on here of how they should look lined up.
So you don't use the oil pump and crank pulley marks? Sorry I've never had to deal with honda like this so that would seem a bit odd if you don't use the marks that are on the oil pump and crank pulley. But if you are like I am thinking then should the indent on the oil pump be on the left or right.
You can half way verify by using a screwdriver to see if the mark is accurate. The problem with the afore mentioned method is if you don't know what piston dwell is you could be off a half tooth or so... I think you are making a bigger deal out of this than you should or you are in way over your head. Just put the marks lining up - rotate crank back and forth slightly and look down the tube to see if you are TDC or use a screw driver. It's not hard.
Yeah I'm not over my head in this lol its just different thentiming chains lol. I guess I am going to have to try the screw driver method. I will give you guys more info on what happens this weekend.
lol well im going to try and see what is up with mine today because it doesn't make sense that the crank mark is in between teeth. lol and no never have done a Chrysler 2.7 but I've done 2 Mercedes v8 engines (from the dodge trucks) and countless 240sx engines lol.

so how can you not have a balancer, but have a crank pulley??
I hadthe balancer off the car at the time lol. Anyways I got a day where I could actually get working on it and needless to say I. Got the timing straightened out. Found the highest point of the piston stroke and the crank pulley mark was below the oil pump mark lol. So its all been corrected and being finished up. Thank you guys for the reminder of the old screwdriver technique it pulled through yet again....
