Default D15 Questions.

Hi! I have a 89 civic HB with the D15 motor in it. Recently its been having issues. I drove it to work, stated fine, ran great. Came out to go home and it wouldnt start. Sounded like it didnt have and compression. So I went to pull the valve cover off and the spark plug holes were all full of oil. I took them all out, cleaned em all, cleaned the spark plug wires. Put the valve cover back on with a new gasket. Did a comprssion test and all the cylinders were at 170's give or take. After I put everything back together it started fine. As I had it running, I was checking things and managed to put my hand near the cap and it shocked the **** outta me. So I got a new cap/rotor. Went to start it after that and it did the same thing, just spins. Like it has no compression. Finnaly after cranking a few times it fired up. What would cause this? Also a few weeks ago I took it for a ride and when to accelerate and hear a slight knock. So I popped the hood, reved it by hand and it does it everytime now. Just one knock when reved or accelerating. Could that be old gas? I havent ran the car much all summer after I got a new truck for a DD. I would start it and take a short drive to keep things moving. I dont drive it offen because it needs a clutch, other than that the car runs fine, idle is smooth. Thanks in advanced for any help and if you took the time to read all of this!

Steve

I still have this problem. Now when the car starts it misses and smokes abit. Then it will idle normal. Exhaust has some water blown out when idleing.

I had a similar starting issue and found many threads on here relating to a bad main relay. I don't know what an engine without any compression sounds like so I can't say if this is your issue BUT resoldering your existing main relay is easy and costs practically nothing. It's also probably the easiest thing to eliminate as a culprit. As for the water coming out of your exhaust, a small amount is normal (H20 is a byproduct of perfect combustion). Having said that, how much is actually blown out of your exhaust? Drip? Dripping? Constant dripping? Waterfall?
