material on 3rd gen cat - b pipe flange?
95 ls
Hello TI,
I broke 2 bolts off of my cat, the part that connects to the B-pipe.
The part that connects to the header is clearly aluminum, but the triangular part that attaches to the b-pipe looks cast iron?
Here are two pictures

Is this part aluminum or cast iron? If it is aluminum, I will just get it welded to my B-pipe.... I don't really care since I take them both off at the same time anyways. If it is cast iron, then I somehow have to get the 3 old studs pressed out and replaced, which will definitely be more expensive than welding.
I have the cat and b-pipe off the car already. Tips appreciated, thanks for reading!

Heat up the "flange" drive the the studs out, use nuts and bolts, [or drive in a new set of studs] total cost should be $2-$5.
You will need a vice, a torch and a good sized ball peen hammer, [you may need a drift] a buddy to help is always good.94

All I have is a propane torch which I dont think gets nearly hot enough.
But, my main question, is this cast iron or aluminum? Because if its aluminum I will get it welded, where-as cast iron can't be welded.
It will be steel or cast, it is unlikely to be aluminum.
I would not buy from Honda, that would make it a car part, [$$$] get them at your local hardware store or nut and bolt shop, [fasteners].
A propane torch will be more then hot enough, all you need to do is heat it not melt it. 94

It's not aluminum or it wouldn't be rusty. Just like fcm said go buy 3 bolts and nuts from a hardware store and you're set. M8x1.25 flange bolts and nuts would be my choice.

it's stainless steel, not t-304 which wouldn't rust, but a different grade, it's some extremely hard stuff, as I bored out a flange on my third gen accord, definitely not mild steel, all you have to do is heat up those studs and drive them out, if you can't find them in a hardware store, about any muffler shop should be able to get them, they deal with this all the time, it's an easy and cheap fix
Yeah it was steel. Muffler shop had an acetylene torch and got all 3 out in about 60 seconds.... And gave me bolts and a gasket for 25$...
Honda wanted 50$ just for the bolts
Muchhh better!!
