1990 Prelude -Cannot shift to 2nd, 4th, or Reverse
Hey all,
we recently purchased a 1990 Honda Prelude from a member on here. The car has an issue of not wanting to go into 2nd, 4th, or Reverse.
Could you guys please assist me with this issue?

Shifter cable is probably stretched or disconnected. Check both where it connects to the trans and the shifter itself. Fairly common problem on 5th gens, dunno how it translates to others. I see a new set of shifter cables in your future.
Come to think of it, that's a b20... If it doesn't have cables, check the linkage. most of my knowledge is 4th and 5th gen related, but it's probably an issue with the linkage or cables whichever you have.

As psud3ity just showed, HT is not the best resouce for 3rd gens because its mostly 4th and 5th gens, and hardly anyone knows anything about this chassis. Some do but very few.
psud3ity just for your information, the B20a5 motor is in no way related to the CRV B20b motor, they are completely different.
You need to go to www.p r e l u d e p o w e r.com(no spaces) sign up and head to the 3rd gen section because that is where you will find all the common issues and maintanence tips for the 3rd gen Prelude 88-91.

although I have been looking for a 3rd gen as a daily driver.
And by the way the 3rd gen uses shift cables just like all the preludes do. Only the Civic/Integra B series motors use rod shifted linkage.
