Civic is louder than others when driving
Hey guys, I bought a 2000 civic si which has a b18c1(gsr) swap in it.
I like the car but what kind of bothers me is that its a lot louder than what my old 96 civic dx was.
Its alright driving through the city, but when I get on the highway and go anywher between 50-100 mph the noise coming from the engine is a lot louder than my older civic.
Any ideas why? Maybe there is some sort of sound reducing installation that Im supposed to have between the engine bay and the inside of the car?

its called turn up ur music get over the fact that you drive a Honda it will be loud especially with a GSR swap for the reason mentioned above
Is it the engine or the exhaust making noise? For engine noise install deadening and MLV on the firewall and front wheel wells. For exhaust noise, a layer of MLV or carpet jute on the floor will drastically decrease the noise.
So it's just loud? No issues with operation? Just loud? You are aware Civics are about THE noisiest in-cabin cars out there. On top of that you have a larger more powerful engine in the car.

You could always line your doors, trunk, and floorboards with sound proofing material. It's very cheap on Amazon.
I'm very tempted to do it myself.

Most people think that sound proofing=sound deadening. This is not so. Sound deadening lowers the vibration of panels using dynamat, raamat, audio technix, ect. Sound proofing adds mass and prevents sound waves from passing through at all. Adding sound proofing to your firewall will drastically cut down engine noise. Sound proofing is ridiculously heavy and not cheap to ship at all (even though it is only like 1.80 per ft^2, a ft^2 can weigh up to 2 lbs.) I suggest finding someone who deals mass loaded vinyl (MLV) locally or at least fairly close so you can go pick it up and skip the shipping price.
I bought the B-Quiet Ultimate (this same exact one from their eBay store) and have done the entire front area. I need to do under the rear seat and the trunk. I still have plenty left, I think I should be able to finish the entire floorboard of the little Hatch with those 50 sq.ft.
Let me know if you want to get together, I'll help you do yours and it will motivate me to finish my own.

I doubt I'll be doing it anytime soon. Working hard to save up for my h2b swap. Hopefully I'll get that done this winter.
Edead or Peel N Seal from Lowes. It's a roofing product that has tar on one side and aluminum-ish stuff on the other side. Works well and is cheap.

No, no no. No roofing products. You will regret it come spring. That stuff stinks to high heaven. I was in a car that got peel-n-sticked and I almost passed out on a hot day. Plus it will slide. I suggest a butyl based deadener like Audio Technix (of which I am doing a review soon, I am 50% done deadening my civic LX) or dynamat or raamat. Edead is simply awful stuff. It would take 3 layers of e-dead to accomplish the same as one layer of technix or dynamat. You don't save money in the long run.
And that's the reason I wound up buying B-Quiet.
