Default OT: Mitsubishi EVO available in the U.S.

Anyone know if Mitsubishi Evo's from Japan are available for purchase in the U.S.? That has to be one of the sweetest cars available. We get all the crappy stuff here in America.

I'm not talking about the American Lancer version which has like 120 HP, i'm talking about the Japanese Lancer version, the one with 280 HP and can do the quarter in about 13.3 seconds stock. I could give a damm about the American version.

He's not lying. That's their or was their "estimated" release date and they are coming. It's also rumored we're not getting the EVO VII but the EVO VIII.

Last I read the EVO is going to be debuted at the Los Angeles autoshow Jan 4-12, 2003 and we're going to be getting the VIII. We'll see how detuned its going to be. They've promised at least 250 hp and under 30K. If the want to detune it for the masses, it would be nice if they would take a hint from Nissan and the new Z and offer an upgraded version for a few grand more.

The EVO VIII is supposed to be released in the US. Supposedly to have close to 280 hp. We'll see about that. Also there were early rumors (months ago) saying it would be under $30k. Somehow I doubt that, so I went and got a WRX instead. The STi WRX should be out next year as well ('04 model) and I would expect that to run close to $35k. Also out of my price range.

Yellow Dragon, who will just have fun with his stock WRX for now.

the Evo V11 will be coming over january 03 it will be watered down with 250hp minimum not lower than that number though. Larger gas tank for the US due to poor gas milage on the japanese and Euro version, since they are switching to a bigger gastank they will eliminate ACD but will replace it with a similar version(sucks) It will also be heavier due to federal regulations/ smog laws . Read this article in sportscar magazine and you guys know how many sides to a story there is when it comes to the auto world will just really have to wait and see what they offer the masses.

Yeah, with the strict U.S. regulations, i'm guessing the American Evo III will weigh alot more cause of the extra safety materials needed to pass regulations which will only make a amazing sports car a bit slower. And i don't understand why they detune these things, what is the point of that? And finally i've read a few sources all saying the price will be a tad under 30K.

One magazine ran a "first drive" of the Mini Cooper and they pulled better slalom times on all season tires than a Porsche 996. That's probably where your dealer based this information. I've driven lots of 996's, and drove the hell out of one particular Mini, and I honestly believe that the Mini is the best handling car I've ever driven.
