VTEC Gasket?
I was at my mechanic today having my oil changed and I asked to check out a leak comming from under my Distributor cap. Hesaid it was the inner seal on the and that I needed a new distributor, he also said I needed a "VTEC Gasket" I've never heard of that before.
Appreciate the help, Thanks

you can replace the seal on the distributor without replacing the entire thing (it is expensive). the vtec gasket is close to the distributor (just above it) but it would be fairly obvious as to which one it is leaking from.
Actually the inner seal of the distributor is rather inexpensive. It's an NOK BH3888(E) oil seal I got one for $5. Might be able to find one from $5-$15 + shipping if there are no oil seal sops in your local area. Check local first!
The VTEC O-Ring/gasket is a Honda OEM gasket PN - 15825-P0A-015 (94-97 F22B1) $10 for the gasket and filter.

Thanks for the replies folks. He did say the vtec gasket is pretty close to the distributor, I will look harder tomorrow. He did mention there were leaks in the distributor as well. The distributor is the original with 263k on it. Replacing the dist looks fairly easy, just not sure about rebuilding one. Thanks again!
If the distributor is leaking, might only be the o ring, it is a $2 part, if there is oil in the distributor then that is a different story.
The vtec solenoid has it's own gaskets, typically like a $22 dollar part, not hard to replace.

Yeah, he said there is oil in the distributor. How would I get the part numbers for the two gaskets for the vtec solenoid? I figured I might as well replace both while it's out. I need to do the distributor and the solenoid work myself.....don't have the $520.00 he wanted to charge.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
its easy. for the solenoid, take the 3 10mm bolts off the top and it splits in half. remove the rubber gasket, clean the mating surfaces with brake cleaner, put the new gasket in the hole and bolt the top back down. very simple, should take 5 mins or so.
now the distributor is a bit more complicated, if i had one laying around i'd make a video. but basically check out hondaautomotiveparts.com
and look for the distributors for sale, and they will show a tear down diagram of them. its basically a take it apart, and put it back togehter in the opposite order job.

these are for my 95 - #10 and #12

Thanks, I've been looking at Distributors as well. Looks like I can do it and I did see as long as you note wich way the arrow on the old distributor is pointing on the old one should be no problem. Do you think the aftermarket ones are just as good?
poorman212: Part number 36172-P0A-005, in post 10, presumably works on your 1995 Honda Accord EX (L4?), but not on ttmix's 1999 Honda Accord LX, 4-cylinder. It appears this gasket is not available for the 1999 Honda Accord LX, 4-cylinder. But I would be glad if someone proves me wrong.
Also, I think the vtec-body-to-engine-block gasket (15825-P0A-015) leaks more often than the unavailable vtec-solenoid-to-vtec-body gasket.
ttmix: Why didn't you let us know how it turned out, or what you found out? We are curious. To answer your question in post 12, I currently think aftermarket distributors generally are not as good as Honda distributors.
GhostAccord: Internal O-ring NOK BH3888(E) might work on your 1996 Honda Accord LX, 4-cylinder, distributor, but not on a 1999 Honda Accord LX, 4-cylinder, I think. But I would be glad if someone proves me wrong.
cptbarkey: As mentioned in post 1, ttmix's distributor internal seal (O-ring) is leaking, which is not available, separately. But I would be glad if someone proves me wrong.

Thanks for bumping a year old thread to tell everyone they are wrong. Next time instead of asking people to prove you wrong. You could try posting the correct answers. The part number that has been provided works for 90-97 4 cyl Accords. Sorry if it doesn't work for the 98+. I am sure that the same retailers would sell an appropriately sized O-Ring for the F23 as well.
It's not like the F23A distributor O-Ring is some sort of mystery part. I'm pretty sure it is available separately. The NOK one mentioned above isn't listed in any Honda spec sheets ether. Sometimes you have to go to Honda's suppliers to get the right parts.
If you or someone else was to make a phone call or send out an email. I'm sure you could be proven wrong and find the elusive F23 dist. O-Ring.
I don't own and F23. Therefore, I'm not going to spend the time looking for the part. I know if I ever did own one that I wouldn't sit around waiting for someone online to tell me where to get it. I found the F22A/F22B O-ring easy enough with one phone call to a local machine shop.
