swapping a 01gsr into an 94ls qustion.
I found a really good deal on a 01 gsr motor. What im wanting to know is what all will need to be done to swap it into my 94 ls car. I done know that i will have to wire vtec into the computer and get it tuned.
Thanks for any help.

Your car is obd-1 and that motor is obd-2. So you'll need an obd-1 vtec distributor or you can purchase a jumper harness for around $50. Also as mentioned you'll need a obd-1 vtec ecu.
Full motor (obd1 distributor included hopefully)
ECU obd1 GSR
Rywire makes a vtec subharness to help you fill in the kinks, knock sensor, butterflies, vtec pressure switch, etc!
The only difference between an obd1 and obd2a/b gsr motor is most likely the distributor (at least what you should be worried about).
A few other things you are most likely going to need to REPLACE due to the motor being ripped out
Possibly engine mounts
obviously tranny fluid and rad fluid
Since the GSR motor is out, it would be a good time to replace the waterpump and timing belt
Oil pan gasket I would also recommend, its a pain in the *** to replace and it literally takes 10 minutes with the motor out....
You don't need to get it tuned. If it runs off of a gsr ecu then you should be okay. You can not use an LS ecu at all.

The guy I'm getting it from has a speed shop said the only thing I would have todo is swap the motors plug everything up and then he would wire the vtec into my ls computer and tune it o make the vtec work.
He uses his current engine harness, dizzy, and ecu. No need for any rwire harness.
He wont need a jumper harness either, the car will be kept OBD1
Car would be getting ectune, we can use a aux output to fire vtec using the LS ecu.
LS dizzy can be modified in about 1 min tops and be used on a GSR head.
Engine wasn't ripped out, no need to replace what you don't need.
Thanks for your time,
DK

-use your current harness
-you'll have to wire up VTEC, knock and IAB's (check my sig below)
-swap over injectors as the OBD2 injectors won't plug in. They are the same flow rate as the GSR's so don't worry about that
-the distributor won't plug in like said above, you'll need an adapter or use 92-95 GSR, 94-95 Del Sol VTEC distributor, or I guess you can do what the poster above suggested as well
-the alternator plug is different as well. So use the one from your LS.
-reuse your OBD1 evap purge, the OBD2 is a different plug style.
other than that should be plug and play

He has to bolt his current accessory's to this long block. All he is buying is a long block.

Cheaper to get a GSR ecu since you don't need a tune on a stock setup.... Chipping an LS ecu and tuning it is much more expensive than just getting a GSR ecu, plus, on a stock motor why would you tune the heck out of it?
Also, how do you modify an obd1 non-vtec dizzy to work for an obd2 vtec motor? I understand that the 1 to 2 plug conversion isnt difficult, but nonv-v?
Thanks

For a an ecu you're looking at 160-200 dollars. To have an ls ecu chipped and converted to vtec you're looking at 100 dollars. What are you talking about tuning? Whoever chips it can put a stock gsr basemap on the chip for free. There's no tuning involved at all.

What determines what distributor you use is your engine harness. So since the op is sticking with his obd1 harness he can use an obd1 ecu no matter if the motor is obd2 or not. All you have to do is cut one of the mounting tabs off. It's looks kinda ghetto but it works just fine and will get you by.
