Smoke coming from my dipstick
i just went to start my car this morning to warm it up and i popped the hood to check something and there was a moderate amount of smoke coming out from between my headers where the dip stick goes. can someone help me figure out why, i just changed my oil a week ago in mind
Oil leaking onto headers? It has happened to me before. I had a pretty severe oil leak in my chrysler from the valve cover gasket and the oil would drip onto my exhaust mani and vaporize, coming out the headlights. What does it smell like? What color is the smoke? Are you low on oil? Do you have any leaks? Is the smoke actually coming OUT OF the dipstick hole or just from that general area?
its coming from the general area of the dipstick. i just topped it off with oil and the motor is bogging at low rpms, it kinda makes a sound similar to a subaru growl. but the valve cover doesnt seem to be leaking.
So it is not coming out of the dipstick hole itself? Alright. What kind of smoke? What did it smell like? Oil smoke will be thick and/or blue. Coolant smoke will be white/steamy and smell like coolant (kinda sweetish).
the gasket that is on the dipstick might be bad, while the motor is cool see if you can wiggle the case where the dipstick goes. if its lose just drain ur oil and pull it out replace it! "think with your dipstick jimmy"
yeah i just checked the tube where the dipstick goes and it pulled right out.
well it also doesnt explain why my car has a putter at acceleration in all gears. im stumped on that one too :/
