Dude it's all on wikipedia. Anyways here it goes. The 04-06 never had a Type S version, only a base, which had Brembo brakes in the front if it had a manual transmission. The Type S was made in 07 and 08 and had the larger J35 engine, Brembo brakes, stiffer suspension and all came with everything (all had navigation). The bumper is a tad different and I know that the ATLP exhaust is different for the base and Type S only because of the bumper. I am not sure if you can put the Type S mufflers on a base, but I don't see why not.

07-08 type-S came with a higher output motor, nav and rear-view cam are standard. I believe the tail light are a little bit darker. Of course the rear bumper and exhaust are different also wheel package is different on the type-s. Interior is badged with Type-S on the headrest.

04-06 TL Sport (manual trans 6MT) VS 04-08 Base

- Shorter gears
- Much shorter final drive (40% more torque to the wheels in low gears)
- LSD
- Stiffer springs
- Harder shocks
- Stiffer sway bars
- Lighter
- Dusty dusty front Brembo brakes
- Has a crazy looking oversized alloy spare wheel/tire to clear Brembos.

04-06 TL Sport VS 07-08 TL-S
- As quick or quicker than Type-S with auto
- Better A-spec ground effects option than TL-S (opinion)
- Better looking wheels than TL-S (opinion)

IMO: Get 04-06 TL Sport or 07-08 TLS with manual trans.

BTW: My bone-stock 05 TL Sport can outrun an 09 Auto that is said to have 45-50 more horsepower. The 6MT gearing rocks.
