Default compression ratio vs head gasket thickness

what is the stock thickness of the head gasket? also how much will it effect the compression ratio to use a .043 or a .030 thickness. thanks

edit:this is for an h22a1, guess that would help.

The stock head gasket is 0.029" thick. For every 0.01" you increase the gasket thickness, you decrease compression by ~0.3.

cool, so it sounds like the turbo guys should get a big fat head gasket.

is that right!? so the .043 reduces it 4.2 points?! thats the size choices from cometic...

No.

For every 0.01" you increase over stock thickness, you decrease compression 0.3.

i.e if those numbers are "about" right with the .014 difference from stock to .043 would be about .42 lower than stock.

Why would you want a big fat head gasket if it decreases the compression ratio, wouldnt you want a bigger compression ratio for more boost? i'm confused..

no u want low compression for turbo. u can have 12:1 compression and still have a turbo say like 5 psi that would be like running 10 psi at 9:5:1 (i know the numbers are not right be u get my point...)

High compression increases the likelyhood of detonation. When you increase the pressure, temperature goes up. High temps in the cylinders induce premature detonation, which blows motors.

So your saying that if a guy with a turbo, would want a huge head gasket so he could in turn get more psi because there is less compression, (if he wanted more), with the proper tuning and internals?

ya, but there has to be a balance, cause lower compression=lower power, assuming everthing else is the same. most people run about 9:1 w/turbo, but im going w/about 10:1 w/standalone and good tuning
