Default $200 Civic

I just recently aquired a 01 civic lx for $200, the body, tranny, and interior is in great shape. Down side, the kid i bought it from didnt check his oil and it had been leaking from the filter not sure if it's seized or not. The mechanic he took it to told him 3 of the 4 cylinders have compression but lose it and the 4th doesnt have compression. I havent tried to start it or even mess with it a lot. Any suggestions on what motor rebuild vs motor exchange?

If the engine hasn't been taken care of, it would be best to just replace it.

Ok so got the car started its not seized up and not knocking. It has a ticking thinking it might be a lifter, and the rear main seal is leaking oil. The kid didnt run it out of oil, the mechanic shop just wanted money. Hopefully its just something simple and I'll have under $500 in the car.

So when I start the car it runs but won't idle, it dies when you let off the gas. Also started it in gear and when I put it in neutral it dies. Any ideals on what this could be?

Have you had it scanned for OBDII codes?

If its ticking, it could be a spun rod bearing as well.

Ticking could mean it needs a valve adjustment. Pull the heads and inspect everything. If the bottom end is F'd then buy a new motor. If the heads are F'd then buy new heads.
