New Motor
Just bought a motor from some guy on craigs. Anyways, motor been sitting there for "2 months". I think it's been sitting there longer then that. Anyways, im guessing it's bad to have oil sitting in your motor....right?
If so my question is, what damage can it cause. TIA

Re: New Motor (spintboy)
it wont hurt it.. thats what oil does, its what its suppose to do. if your worried just change the oil before you fire it up but honestly its not going to hurt anything

It won't mess up anything. I know when my friend had a b16 sitting for about 2 months in his totalled shell, it smoke a bit upon startup. We think it was just old oil that had collected in the cylinder walls or something that was being burt off. Ran fine after a few miles of driving.

i think i get what your saying... its not gonna hurt the engine if you run it with oil thats been sitting but it will probably be better if you change it before running it.

Re: (EG6 Love)
My bad for not being more specific. The motor is not even in a car right now, it is sitting in a storage facility that i rented. What i was asking is, is it okay to have oil sit there while its not being used, or should i drained it out?
Then add all fluids when im finish with my swap.
The guy i bought it from said that the motor has been sitting for 2 months, and im not going to be installing in another months or so.
Sorry if everything got mixed up.

Think about all the cars that sit in storage for months/years. They still have the oil in them.
Just cuz the motor is out of the car doesn't mean the oil will be any different

Re: (electron_si)
how long does oil sit on the shelf at the store? months. how many miles have you put on the motor while sitting? none. my conclusion is the oil should be fine, and not hurt anything.

So in conclusion. Having oil sitting in the motor while its not being used is fine and will not do any kind of damage. Thanks.
