My ITR won't go into reverse at all, all of a sudden. It was fine this morning, but after leaving it parked for a while I went to get into it and reverse out of a bay and the gear stick won't even move into reverse.
Tried starting and stopping the car,
tried rocking it forward in a forward gear first,
all other gears work perfectly.
Ended up having to push the car out of the parking bay and I was able to drive home.
Can anyone please help diagnose the problem?

change your transmission fluid. sometimes mine doesn't go in, i just let out the clutch in neutral, depress it again, put it in first, then into reverse. always worked for me.

 

Tried that, as I usually do that when its stubborn.
Its not like the usual problem where you feel it move in a little, hear the teeth mesh a little but not go in.... this time you can't even move the gear stick down at all. Its almost like the bushings are blocking the gear off entirely.

 

when was the last time you replaced transmission fluid and what kind did you use? does this always happen - or at random times?

 

I get the car serviced at the dealership, I have to check back on the receipts from my services to see when the tranny fluid was last changed.

The problem only started today, and I haven't been able to shift into reverse at all for the last 2 hours.

and bitch at the dealer! they probably did not use Honda MTF.


Also why didn't you do your own fluid change?

 

Dealer just got back to me.
5th gear synchro died, took the gear with it, and that's why it won't go into reverse.
