1999 Honda Civic Si B20 VTEC (2nd Gear Problem)
hey guys i have few things to ask...
1999 Honda Civic Si
i have a crv block with b16 dohc vtec head...
transmission is stock b16 si tranny
now the main problem is
when im driving the car normally around town and city im mostly in between 1 to 3rd gear...
all of my gears are great except 2nd gear...
when im driving and im in 2nd gear (not all the time but 40% of the time it will pop out and either grind or pop it self into neutral)
what is wrong???
now when im driving on the highway or even getting on it going thru all the gears im fine...
only when im driving slow enough to be in 2nd gear it does it...
what do i need to do to fix my problem? how to fix it?

and is there a way you can link me to a picture or post one please and thank you.
also is it something i need to hire a special mechanic for just hondas...
or is it something i can have done by an average mechanic that works on all sorts of cars... and will konw what a synchro is and how to replace..
You need a service manual if you want to do the job yourself. Otherwise, shop for a replacement transmission. In this case, you will save a lot of money if you remove the old transmission and install the replacement yourself.
do you think it will be a better idea though buying a new tranny and it could end up having same problem or worse...
or pay $250 for new sleeves plus synchros by gearspeed
pay $300 for labor
and do it right without worries.

Your decision should be based on your mechanic skills. Synchro replacement is not for a beginner and requires some specialized tools. You will need to remove and disassemble the transmission, press the gears on and off the shaft, and reassemble everything correctly.

i wouldn't recommend doing this yourself if u have never tore a transmission apart before. i would look for a replacement or have someone else install it. have them put it in so if something does go wrong u can take it back to be replaced again free of charge.
